Today’s post is a throwback, shot during our Ireland trip! We took these while walking around the city of Dublin, and this was one of my favorite outfits of the trip. I was typically wearing some version of it almost every day! I think there’s a secret sauce when it comes to the perfect travel outfit–heres my take:
Dark skinny jeans: I brought two pairs of jeans on my Ireland trip, but this is the pair I reached for over and over! Dark skinnies are perfect for travel for several reasons: they don’t show dirt (which you’ll inevitably attract anywhere in Europe) and they’re skinny, so they fit inside your boots, and look just as great with sneakers. (VS a pair of flares, for example, that won’t fit into your boots.) They also don’t drag on the ground, which would be very problematic for walking (again, flares, not such a great idea for travel.) Favorite pairs: Henry & Belle, J. Brand, Paige, Madewell, Forever21
A navy blazer: I wore this navy blazer over and over. It’s chic, polished, and makes any outfit look a little more put together. Why navy over black? I felt that it went with more, and I think navy looks much prettier on most skin tones than black does. I love J.Crew Factory, Asos, and Loft, which always typically have a great blazer selection. For warmer months, go for a lighter weight version in linen!
Stripes: This sounds weird, but stripes are perfect for travel! Striped basics are so much cuter than solid colors, and the pattern disguises dirt really well. I brought several striped items on this trip and I wore them all on constant rotation. Stripped sweaters, dresses, tees, everything!
A blanket scarf: An oversized scarf is great for any trip, because it adds extra warmth, makes your outfit more stylish, and also acts as a blanket on freezing cold planes, hotels and so forth.
Boots: If you’re going to Europe in the Spring, Fall or Winter, boots are an absolute must! Make sure the pair you bring has a leather sole, so they’re comfortable and can endure plenty of wear and tear. I loved this lace up pair (they’re vintage!) because I could switch out the laces depending on my mood!
Bag: Whenever you’re traveling, you want to go with either a cross body purse or a backpack. Cross body versions are safer from pick pockets (the one downside to a backpack, you can’t see if someone is reaching into it behind you), but they do get heavy, bulky, and don’t hold as much. I absolutely loved this Vera Bradley version–it held SO much, its perfect for day but chic enough to go out with at night. The perfect travel bag in my opinion. It also has several pockets, which are great for storage.
