I cannot believe Valentine’s Day is around the corner. CRAZY TOWN! A lot of you have been asking for ideas on what to wear for the occasion. I’m planning on doing a “Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas” post with more styling tips, but today, I wanted to do a little roundup of cute tops, sweaters, dresses, and accessories for those of you who were interested in purchasing something new for the occasion!
Now–let me be clear–no, I don’t think you NEED to buy something new for Valentine’s Day ?(In fact, many times I’ve worn a black blouse and a swipe of my favorite red lipstick and felt perfectly festive!)
But, if you love any excuse to dress up, I think you’ll love these staples that you’ll wear the rest of the winter, into spring, and for many of them–year round! Many of them are on sale–Nordstrom has a TON of excellent mark downs right now!
(And if you need ideas on where to go, check out my post from last year–How to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Chicago style! I’ll be updating it soon for this year as well!)
What To Wear on Valentine’s Day and Beyond:
You guys KNOW I’m all about the camisoles–and this one could not be more perfect for Valentine’s day (or any date night, really!) You can dress it down with a cardigan, dress it up with a leather jacket, wear it with jeans or leather leggings! It’s super versatile, and you’ll get a lot of wear out of it!
If the above velvet cami isn’t your style, you might love this lace-trim camisole instead! It’s only $39 and it’s the BEST layering piece. Something you’ll definitely wear year-round–alone, under jackets, sweaters, you name it–I own a lace camisole in several colors and wear them so often!
On sale! For my girls who love a feminine dress–this one is darling for any date. You can totally wear it with pumps for a classic look, with over the knee boots, or with booties or a moto jacket to make it a little more casual. You’ll definitely wear this all winter!
Do you own any blush sweaters? If you don’t, they’re a great transitional essential that you’ll want to reach for when you just can’t take the “winter” colors anymore. (I.E. when it’s March and you want to dress for spring when it’s still freezing!) So, duh, while it’s ideal for V-Day, you can wear this now, and well into spring!
On sale! I love the sweet subtle polka dot pattern of this blouse! Plus, it’s a staple that you can wear to the office with work pants (love these from J.Crew) or with skinny jeans!
On sale for only $29! Another great dress option that is beautiful and feminine, ideal for a date, but also conservative enough for things like work, dinner with the grandparents, etc!
On sale for $32! I thought this sweater was so fun! Who doesn’t love stripes–and I think we could all use a little more “fun” in our wardrobes to counter-balance the dreary winter weather!
On sale for $35! This dress reminds me of my favorite little red linen midi dress that I got years ago and still wear to DEATH. (Sadly it’s old and I can’t find a copy cat, or I’d link it) but the best part about this dress is that it’s the perfect balance for us girls who want something a little bit sweet and a little bit sexy, but not over the top! Wear it with classic pumps to make it more upscale, or booties and a moto jacket to dress it down!
Camisoles again! You know me and my camisoles ?How beautiful is the back on this one? The front is really beautiful and simple and high-necked. This is another piece that you’ll actually get wear out of year-round. Of course, it’s most beautiful on its own, but would also be great with a moto jacket layered over the top!
A classic v-neck sweater, in a beautiful hue. If you want something a *little* festive, this is a great option that you can wear celebrating with dinner at home (wear it with leather or velvet leggings) or dress it up with a skirt, tights, and booties!
Another blouse that’s super versatile–festive for Valentine’s but something you’ll reach for again and again, whether it’s going out with friends, dates, to the office–pairs well with everything from skirts to jeans, leggings, office pants–you name it!
On sale for $29!velvet. Before, cardigans were just for layering–but button them up, and they’re a special stand-alone sweater! I love the color of this one especially!
A J.Crew favorite–velvet is one of my favorite fabrics to wear in the winter because it adds a textural element to any outfit. Pair this with your favorite jeans, leather leggings, black skirt + tights–whatever. The perfect going out top!
On sale! This feminine blouse gives me all the effortless French-girl vibes. The dainty buttons down the front–the beautiful, super soft pink color. This is another top you’ll reach for year-round!
On sale! I bought this jacket this past fall and I have worn it SO many times since. If you’re wondering–yes, you can definitely layer this under a warmer coat! Moto jackets aren’t just for warmth–they’re part of your outfit! Layer this over the top of any camisole or light sweater!
I think I might have to pull the trigger on this Reformation dress. It is SO. ADORABLE. It feels Mrs. Maisel-esque but modern with the high slit! I would definitely wear it all year round!
Like I said above, you don’t have to wear red or pink to feel festive for V-Day! I also love a black dress with a swipe of red lipstick! I just stumbled upon this sweater dress and had to include it–it’s got subtle ruching which makes it probably the most flattering sweater dress ever! Enough coverage for work, but still cute enough for a date!
Next up on my Everlane wish-list is their alpaca sweater. This pretty pink color is SO pretty and obviously feels appropriate for Valentine’s as well!
I couldn’t NOT include my #1 favorite pair of shoes–the Everlane Day Heels. They come in so many colors, but I own them in red leather. I wear them year-round, and they are my favorite shoes to put on no matter what I’m wearing. They’re the star of every outfit–plus, the comfiest heels you will EVER OWN. Seriously, I walked around Italy in them! (You can see how I’ve styled them about 100 different ways in these blog posts!) Go up a 1/2 size if you’re in question!
If you aren’t into the whole red and pink top/dress thing–that’s okay! Accessories are a really fun way to add a little bit of festivity without going all-in. This pair of earrings from Baublebar is one of my favorites (I own them in other colors!) I also found this Amazon dupe (not exactly the same, but close!) for just $10!
