I remember starting my first corporate job right after college graduation–I was so excited to have my own apartment, to live on my own, to make my own money (or lack thereof), and I was even excited to wear “work clothes.”
Unfortunately, that joy lasted all of five seconds, when I realized that I would have to spend my hard earned money on clothing that would never see the light of a Saturday or a date night. (What?!)
Business casual dress code is HARD–pencil skirts, office pants, no open toed shoes, pantyhose–the whole nine yards. However, if you choose your pieces wisely, you can actually make them work for both work and play!
I’ve received a lot of questions from you guys on how to pick out cute business-casual wear, so I definitely plan on incorporating more “work-worthy” pieces in future outfit posts. However, I didn’t have time to shoot an “office appropriate” post before the Nordstrom Sale ended, and there are so many good workwear pieces on sale so, this round up will have to do for now 😉
Here are my 20 favorite work appropriate clothes you’ll want to wear on the weekend, too! (Remember, prices go up on Monday!)
Any corporate girl can vouch that there is often no colder place than an office cubicle. I used to keep a sweater on my desk chair at all times, and this longline cardigan is perfect for keeping you warm in the freezing office!
I’ve got my eye on this adorable faux leather skirt! While you might automatically think it’s perfect for Saturday night, you can make it office appropriate by adding opaque tights and chunky heeled booties or mary janes!
You heard me rave about Ponte pants earlier this week, and for good reason. I seriously cannot get enough of these pants! They feel like leggings, but look really professional. You can wear them with pumps to work, with sneakers to brunch, and anywhere in between.
I’m not sure I can think of anywhere I wouldn’t wear this adorable bell sleeved ruffle sweater! This is a staple that you’ll wear to death for every occasion.
I love this top! It comes in tons of colors and will look beautiful with a pencil skirt for work, tucked into jean shorts for a casual Saturday, or with a mini skirt and OTK boots for a fall dinner date!
My favorite leather tote–it’s the perfect thing to carry all your essentials–it easily fits my laptop, a sweater, even my camera, all at the same time!
I love the cuffs on this french stripe shirt. They dress it up and make it office appropriate, but it can just as easily be dressed down with distressed jeans and sneakers.
A subtle way to spice up your office wear? With leopard! I love these Sam Edelman pumps–I have a very similar version! They’re also comfortable, and the ankle strap comes in really handy when you’re running late for a meeting!
Can you tell I have a thing for bell sleeves!? This sweater is so chic with the white contrast detail on the sleeve! It reminds me of something Audrey Hepburn might wear!
Never underestimate the versatility of a great shirt dress! No matter what your office dress code, you can easily make these one of your staples! It would be great for a warm weather vacation, too!
Pajama shirts are very in right now, and I am a big fan! I love the contrast piping on this, and it looks so pretty tucked into a skirt for work, or with your favorite high-waisted skinny jeans for Saturday night!
Pleated midi skirts are currently having a moment in the spotlight, and I love that they feel on-trend and timeless at the same time. The length also makes them very office appropriate!
I think every woman needs a couple flowy, feminine blouses in her closet. I especially love the bow–it’s classy enough for the office, but romantic enough for a date!
My latest footwear obsession–Mary Janes! These have a round toe and a chunky heel, which make them super comfy and classic! Appropriate for the office, but also adorable with jeans for a date.
Stripes, stripes, and more stripes! Wear this with ponte pants and chic ballet flats (bonus points if they’re red!) I bet you never thought you could make your work-wear feel Parisian, right?
Another PJ shirt–but a chambray button down version! What’s not to love? Wear it with slacks, ponte pants, leggings, jorts, white jeans, leather leggings–it literally goes with everything.
If you’re bored of your usual dark office pants, these might be worth the splurge! They would also look so cute with a slinky tank and some fun heels to go out on Friday night!
This sweater looks so cozy and comfy! Tuck it into a skirt and tights for the office, and wear with leggings and loafers on the plane!
I also own a similar pair of classic nude patent leather pumps and they have lasted me several years. They’re great for the office, but also great for weddings!
