5 Classic Winter Wardrobe Staples

quilted-navy-barbour-beadnell-green-cords

Coat: Quilted navy Barbour jacket (also just got this black version from Tuckernuck and I’m obsessed with my waxed version in olive as well!) // Boots: Coach at Nordstrom (they’re so pretty and classic! They come in wide calf version as well.) // Pants: Green cords by KUT from the Cloth via Nordstrom  in “Deep Green” but they have SO many colors! My other favorites being this dark wine color, winter white, and olive. // Wrap tee: Nordstrom (short sleeve is almost sold out, but long sleeved version is fully stocked! It’s SO SOFT and is such a nice shake up from a regular tee)// Scarf: old, but similar at Tuckernuck here and here // Bag: Vintage LV Speedy 25 bag (Which you can snag online used at amazing prices at the Real Real)

Happy Tuesday!

Are you back at work today? Isn’t it such a strange week? I was debating whether or not to post something yesterday, but Neal had the day off and I decided since we rarely get time off together, I should join in on the fun and embrace the down time. I hope you did too!

How was your Christmas? Ours was SO much fun. It was so great to spend it with Neal’s family. We’ve spent every OTHER holiday together for the last four years, so it was really special to finally spend Christmas together and be part of their family traditions!

These past couple days I got to do something that I haven’t had time to do in a VERY long time due to the holiday madness that began in November and hasn’t let up since–I finally got back to yoga. AHHH. It felt so good. And the weather? We had mimosas on our front deck! I walked around all day in just my Barbour coat and it was glorious.

Anyway, I wanted to update you on some wedding planning! Our two-day stay in Portland was VERY productive! We knocked out a lot of things on the wedding to-do list, including nailing down our DJ (Vintage Vinyl–they spin vinyl–how cool is that?), doing my hair/makeup trial (with Kirstie Wight–see photo here!), and figuring out where we’ll be staying (the Sentinel–it’s GORGEOUS!), and doing our food tasting (Tamale Boy! Upscale Mexican–we are SO excited!) right before we jetted off to the airport.

Then, on Wednesday, I spent all day with the Kendra Scott team (and Natalie, our awesome photographer!) shooting something really fun and exciting that I can’t wait to share with you later this winter!) Lot’s of fun stuff happening!

Okay, enough rambling. I promised we’d talk about 5 favorite winter wardrobe staples, so that’s probably what we should do before I run out of time and have to leave for the taco party, right? K. Let’s do it.

1. Classic Riding Boots

Everyone’s over here like, “OTK BOOTS OTK BOOTS OTK BOOTS!!!!” that it seems like everyone has forgotten about classic riding boots. Hello, they’re still amazing?

I just got this Coach pair over Black Friday (which is still currently on sale!) and I absolutely love them. They’re so pretty, and I love the gold buckle detail on the side! They’ve got the perfect amount of heel (not completely flat, but not medium or high by any means) which gives a good amount of support. As you can probably guess, this means they’re REALLY comfy! (They also have a wide calf version here! And if you’re looking for black riding boots instead, I love this version made by Blondo, who makes my favorite OTK boots. Plus, they’re waterproof leather!)

2. Colored Cords

Cords!? Don’t they make you think of those Old Navy commercials when you were a kid? Funny enough, they’re back, and I’ve really taken a liking to them again. This pair that I’m wearing comes in so many different colors, but I love this deep, dark green! It’s a fun alternative to wearing jeans all the time!

3. Quilted Barbour Beadnell

I’ve worn my waxed beadnell for years, but I recently just got the quilted version (which Kelly has raved about for EVER) and I love it sooo much. It’s got this polar-quilt lining that is so warm and cozy. When we were in Portland, I wore my black one the entire time and it was perfect for the chilly weather there.

Quick tip on sizing, as I get a lot of questions about it–this really depends on how you like your coats. If you prefer to have room for layering chunky sweaters, you can size up. If you prefer your coats a bit more snug,  stick with your true size.

4. Wrap Tee

Okay, so I guess a tee shirt can be considered an “anytime” staple, not just a winter one, but I’ve been wearing this one from Nordstrom so much lately. I love that it’s tee material but the wrap qualities make it so much more exciting than a normal t-shirt. You can more easily dress it up for dinner, and it’s SO soft, too! (Sadly, my short sleeve version is pretty much sold out, but the long sleeved version is fully stocked and comes in tons of colors. Even better for winter! ;-P)

5. Green plaid scarf

I spent a long period of my life never wearing anything green. Why? I’m not sure. But lately I’ve been drawn to really dark greens–I think they’re a fun alternative to navy and are a really flattering color on any skin tone. (Yes, even your most pale winter skin looks great in dark green, I promise.) So, naturally, when it comes to scarves, I’ve been gravitating to those in green plaids.

That scarf is so pretty!! I’ve been really drawn to dark greens lately too, they’re such a fun alternative to a navy or black. Enjoy the taco party 😉

Thank you for these tips! I’m moving to NYC next month and I’ll definitely need them. Do you have a post on fashion for extremely cold months? It’d be so helpful! 🙂
