It’s a big to-do at the top of my bucket list to go to the Kentucky Derby. I can’t think of a better afternoon than dressing up in a fabulous hat, watching horse races, and sipping on mint juleps!
One day, I will definitely make it there, but this year, I’m doing the next best thing–pairing up with Vineyard Vines to host the “Coast to Coast” Kentucky Derby viewing party at Del Frisco’s! For all of you in Chicago, be sure to stop on by! There will be some great bites and all the 14 hands wine you’d like! Of course, Kelly will be there too (I couldn’t host an event without her, could I?) So come join in the fun! We’ll be there from 3-6pm. Don’t forget to RSVP to VVChicago@zapwater.com!
If you’ve got other plans or plan to host a little southern soiree of your own, I’ve pulled together 5 tasty new takes on the mint julep (because you’ve got to have mint juleps at your Derby party, right?!)
Which one will you try?
Sweet Tea Julep
Just when you thought the Mint Julep couldn’t get more southern, Southern Fatty found a way to add sweet tea to the mix. This one just shot up straight to the top of my list. I’m wondering if it would be great with a little bit of honey, too?

Pineapple Ginger Julep
You guys know I’ve got a thing for coconut. Well, lately, I’ve been really into pineapple too. So when I came across this recipe, I immediately started drooling! This one is made with pineapple simple syrup, and topped with pineapple juice!

LAVENDER MINT JULEP
I would have never thought to pair lavender, mint, and bourbon, but if it tastes even half as pretty as it looks, I’m sold!

PEACH FIZZ JULEP
This creative recipe uses a scoop of peach sorbet and a sugar rimmed glass to make this cocktail extra special (perfect for those who don’t actually like the strong taste of a traditional julep!)
See full recipe at Ruffled.
The taste of rhubarb always reminds me of childhood. Strawberry rhubarb pie was always my dad’s favorite, so when I saw this in a cocktail, my ears (eyes?) immediately perked up! The secret is homemade rhubarb syrup (which sounds really fancy, but is actually pretty easy!) And really, could this be any prettier?

What kind of julep are you making on Saturday?
