How was your weekend?!
We got back from Buffalo, NY last night (our friends Emily and Andrew got married!) and now it’s full focus on SPAIN IN THREE DAYS! EEEK! Hasn’t hit me. I haven’t actually started packing either. (Although this post is a good start!) I’ve also got so much to wrap up before we leave I don’t think I will actually have time to get excited until we’re on the plane! (Does that ever happen to you before vacation?) Exhibit A: Janine gets here in 45 minutes to help me shoot my next Everlane Capsule andddd I’m not even showered yet. 😬
BUT–today, we’re back with another Ask Jess! Let’s jump in!
Do you still like your Nespresso machine? I’m thinking of getting one but trying to decide between that and a regular coffee machine!
I love our Nespresso machine so much! Everyone always asks which kind to get, and honestly, they’re pretty much all the same. The fancier ones give you more size choices but honestly, I don’t think it makes a huge difference. We actually have both that and a regular coffee machine, because sometimes we’re in the mood for an espresso, and sometimes we’re in the mood for regular drip coffee.
Unlike Nespresso machines though I don’t think all coffee machines are created equal! We have the Cuisinart combo grinder/coffee maker, so it automatically measures how many beans you need, and grinds them fresh each time. I never can measure coffee correctly so this makes it way easier AND it’s so fresh each time!
What do you think the most valuable lessons are that you learned in your advertising career that transfer to your blog?
I honestly didn’t have a ton of applicable *skills* per say that transferred, because I worked on the Account management side, and it was really a lot more client relations work, keeping track of budgets in spreadsheets, and making decks/presentations. The creative skills were all self-taught (photography, graphic design, WordPress, etc–and I majored in Journalism so writing has always been my thing.)
However, I learned SO much in terms of general business practice, and I do think having the knowledge of how an agency works has greatly helped me now that I’m on the “other side” and I’m working with agencies all the time on brand projects. I wrote a post right here on the best lessons I learned from my favorite bosses!
Favorite podcast lately? I need new reccos for my commute!
Neal and I are obsessed with My Dad Wrote a Porno. You will laugh SO. HARD. Basically, this British guy’s dad read 50 Shades of Grey and tried to replicate it, showed it to his son, and he thought it was so funny and horrible that he and his two friends decided to create a podcast and read a new chapter each week. Just trust me. I’ve turned several of you on to this already and I get DMs all the time about how funny it is. 😂
Also, there are also a ton of reccos in this Podcast roundup!
Any tips for getting out of a rut? Sometimes life can feel like such a grind and I struggle when I’m feeling less inspired.
I FEEL YOU. Pretty sure we’ve all experienced this at one point or another (and will again)! I wrote a post on this very subject a few years ago: How to get out of a rut. Despite being an older post, each tip still rings true and goes a long way to help me feel like my normal self again!
