If you’ve been keeping up with the blog + Instagram lately, you know we got the amazing opportunity to partner with Capital One last week! As you probably know (or maybe have noticed)–over the past year, I’ve made it a huge business goal of mine to scale back on traditional blog sponsorships (mostly for my mental sanity ?), focusing on fewer, better-sponsored projects, exclusively with brands we already love and (typically) have been using for a really long time.
Capital One is definitely one of those companies, and I was SO excited when I saw that first email hit my inbox.
Capital One’s Platinum credit card was my very first credit card back in the day–it helped me build credit from scratch when I was a recent grad and [of course, by paying my bills on time and using it responsibly] it really set my credit journey up for success!
Neal and I have also been huge fans of their Venture card for years–we’ve been able to make so many amazing memories thanks to the perks we receive through the card!
So, you can imagine my excitement when they invited me to team up with them to promote their partnership with the James Beard Foundation and the Capital One cardholder access that comes along with that. (An enthusiastic YES required no hesitation from this food lover. ?)
As guests of Capital One, Neal and I (and you guys, because you get to come along with us behind the scenes today! ?) got to attend two of JBF’s Taste America Events–the Raising the Bar cocktail reception as well as their gala dinner, featuring food and drinks from Chicago’s most renowned chefs and bartenders! (Including my girl crush Stephanie Izard!!)
The best part? Capital One cardholders get access to purchase Taste America® tickets before they go on sale to the public, and special perks–like chef meet and greets, access to special restaurant pop-ups–and more!
JBF’s Taste America events (and other cool happenings!) pop up in 20 cities nationwide over the next year–so definitely check out if there are any exclusive cardholder events coming to your city here and here!
As if you needed another reason to get excited–all proceeds benefit the Beard Foundation, which promotes diversity and inclusion in culinary culture, as well as food responsibility and sustainability initiatives–as they say, “Good food for good.”
First–why we love our Capital One Venture Card:
Capital One actually didn’t ask me to share my personal experience with our Capital One card, but I really wanted to, because I know a lot of you guys have goals to travel more–and this can really help you do that!
If your credit card hasn’t been working for you and earning you some amazing rewards, I’d suggest researching one that does, and Capital One is a great place to start.
Like I said, we have the Venture card, so that’s the one I’ll speak to personally here! Here are some of the reasons we love our Venture card. (I would also like to reiterate here AGAIN, as always–that any credit card should always be used responsibly and paid off in full, every month.)
One of the best cards out there–period–for people who like to prioritize experiences like travel and dining:
We often get asked how we’re able to travel so much, and our Venture card is a huge part of that. Not only do new cardholders get 50,000 bonus miles if they spend $3,000 within 3 months of account opening, but you earn unlimited 2 miles per dollar on every purchase, and 10X miles per dollar on thousands of hotels when you book via hotels.com/venture, through January 2020. If you’re like us and often fly multiple airlines/aren’t loyal to one specific hotel chain–this comes in VERY handy, because you can use your miles to cover the cost of tickets on all the major airlines without blackout dates!
With the card, you also get up to a $100 credit for TSA Precheck or Global Entry application!
Tons of extra perks available for dining, sports, and entertainment:
Cardholders get access to experiences that nobody else does–from local pop-up dinners with some of the best chefs in the world, early access concert tickets, discounts, VIP lounge access at events, and more. The Taste America events are just the tip of the iceberg! (Get more info on that here!)
Other cards to look into:
Capital One makes other great cards too that might be a better fit depending on your lifestyle, credit, and other factors! You can compare all their cards right here to find the best choice for you.
Now, come along with us as we re-live the Chicago Taste America events!
Thursday Night–Taste America Raising The Bar Cocktail Event:
Above: Bar Sotano’s featured Mango Margarita and Chef Patrick Sheeran’s Gourmet Italian Beef Bites!
They had some great ‘gram worthy photo ops!
Above: Lost Lake’s Featured Cocktail: It was so good and the most inventive use of gin I’ve ever tasted!
Friday Night: Taste America Gala
Above: During cocktail hour, there were several booths with delicious small bites and cocktail pairings!
My favorite dish of the night was Stephanie Izard’s Duck Ceviche. I’m not usually a big duck fan, but this was AMAZING. Each dish was also accompanied by stellar (and generous!) wine pairings!
Chef Carlos Gaytan speaking and the kickoff of the live auction. (SO many amazing culinary experiences generously donated by local chefs and restaurant groups were auctioned off! It was also really entertaining to watch the live auction!)
Crazy creative (and beautiful) rice krispies from Fat Rice
Highlight of the night: Meeting Stephanie! (And her also asking Neal to take a photo of all the chefs on stage. Definitely #1 moment of his Instagram Husband career!) ?
