Happy Friday, guys!
I’m so excited about today’s post because it represents something I’ve been wanting to do for a LONG time.
Reason A: My VERY first DSLR video! No, not my Ask Jess videos filmed on my laptop (those are supposed to be very casual, and not remotely fancy!) This one I actually filmed on my DSLR, with a tripod, music, and everything! I still have some kinks to work out (cough…focusing the darn thing is really hard when you have nobody else there to help you!) but overall I’m pretty excited about this new chapter for GG.
You have to leave a comment and tell me your honest thoughts, okay!?
Reason B: I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do a drugstore beauty buys post, and just never got around to it. I could probably do an entire series of all the great stuff I’ve found at Walgreens, but this video is a great start!
Ready to watch the video!? (Also, make sure to read down to the bottom for a way to get even more savings!)
Nexxus Volumizing Mousse:
I don’t blow dry my hair a lot (especially in the summer when it’s sweltering out) but sometimes I’m in a pinch for time, or I want that voluminous “blowout” type look for a night out. Since my hair is so heavy, I need a bit of “oomph” at my roots, and the Nexxus Volumizing Mousse really does the trick.
Nexxus Finishing Hairspray:
If you’re a product minimalist and don’t like the way hairspray feels in your hair, you’ll love this hair spray. I’ve tried about 800 different kinds, and I like a bunch for different reasons–but this one I like in particular because it’s super lightweight and you can’t even tell it’s in your hair.
Plus, it doesn’t really have much of a scent. Sometimes it bothers me how scented hair products are, because when you layer your perfume in the mix, it’s just too much.
TRESemmé Dry Shampoo:
I’ve always loved TRESemmé products. They were one of the first beauty brands I started at 13 years old and I still use them today. They’ve always been there for me. (Does anyone else still think of the throwback “TRESemmé–ooh la la! song every time they hear the word? Just me? Okay moving on…)
So quite contrary to the Nexxus products, TRESemmé DOES actually have a distinct scent. And luckily, it’s an amazing one. Their Fresh Start Dry Shampoo is your best friend for those days when you don’t wash your hair because A. It totally makes it look like you’ve washed it and B. It totally makes it smell like you’ve washed it.
Plus, it doesn’t leave any of that white residue that a lot of dry shampoos do. It also is great to spray in your hair before styling an up-do, as it gives it the right amount of texture to stay in place.
Dove Intense Repair Hair Mask:
Sun, sand, and chlorine can take a toll on your hair in the summer, so I like this Dove Intense Repair Deep Treatment Mask to give my hair a little pick-me-up/ hydration boost whenever it needs it.
Real Techniques Makeup Brushes:
I am SO IMPRESSED with Real Techniques makeup brushes. I love this little three pack that covers all your bases. I’ve used Real Techniques brushes for years, and they last forever. Plus, they’re super soft, and definitely don’t feel like a drugstore buy! Plus, this three pack comes in a carrier that is perfect for throwing in my bag when I’m on the go (and then they don’t get all gross inside of your makeup bag!) 3 amazing brushes for under $20? Sold!
Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser:
At the old age of 27, I decided it was time to buy some under eye concealer, and I really like Maybelline’s Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser formula. It’s really light, and has this sponge applicator that is really nice–it distributes just the right amount of product, which I blend with my fingers or a beauty blender. It’s not heavy and caky like a lot of concealers can be. It’s great if you only need a light boost, and don’t want to feel like you have much on your face!
Maybelline Dream Lumi:
Dream Lumi is both a concealer and highlighter in one, and I love it when I’m going for a highlighted/contoured look. It has a very subtle amount of sheen to it, so it really gives you a glowing look perfect for bringing out those cheekbones. It’s also a great under eye brightener (I’ve layered both the Age Rewind and this if I REALLY need it!)
Also super convenient: Right now, Walgreens has an amazing $2.00 off deal when you buy any of 3 TRESemmé, Nexxus, Dove or Suave products. Personally, I never used to use coupons because they were such a hassle to print (who owns a printer these days anyway?) but Walgreens makes it really easy to just clip them to your Walgreens card online! So go ahead and clip away, girlfriend.
What are your favorite drugstore beauty products? What else would you like me to do a video on?
