Jacket: BlankNYC (it sold out from Shopbop but I just found it on Zappos! I got a size small, which is my normal size! Make sure you sign up for their email list so you get free 2 day shipping!) The best white skinny jeans: Madewell–they have the perfect amount of stretch! (Run TTS) You guys also told me that J.Crew’s are equally amazing and not see through! Shoes: Sam Edelman ‘Katy’ slides–they also come in brown, black, and blue–also, they’re on sale for $65! Run TTS! Bag: Madewell Transport tote (duh, what else do I ever carry?) Comes in tons of colors and styles–it’s my favorite and I’ve had it for YEARS. It’s so roomy and fits everything you need! Striped tee: Old, but similar here that knots in the front, and similar here as well. How cute is this striped peplum tee, too? If you’re looking for something with longer sleeves, I own this J.Crew striped boatneck in another color and I love it! It’s really classic! Sunnies: (Another major repeat offender)–Ray Ban (these are the 53mm, they also come in a smaller 50mm size!) Lip color: RMS Red by RMS Beauty
Guess what I’m doing today?
Going to SAN FRANCISCO!
I’m sooo excited! Neal is going for work and you guys know we have the Southwest Companion (Neal’s work credit card is Southwest, so that’s how he spends enough to qualify for it!) so that means I get to jump on board and go for free! I’ll be working from SF coffee shops all week, and then on Thursday I jump on a plane bound for Louisville for the Kentucky Derby! I’m going with Vineyard Vines and I could not be more excited! Stay tuned for a lot of updates there!
Anyway–we aren’t talking about SF today, we’re talking about GIRLS NIGHT.
Sadly, the girls nights are fewer and further between these days due to busy schedules and do to the fact that all my blogger besties are now moms. You know, it’s kind of hard to do like, anything, with a baby. We were really excited when we finally found a date to all get together and go out to dinner!
I always get so many questions on where to go out to dinner in Chicago with the girls, so I thought this was the perfect occasion to share some of my favorites!
First though, let’s talk about this outfit 😉 (THAAA JACKETTT though! 🙌🏻)
What I wore to Girls Dinner:
Earlier in the day, it was essentially summer–60 degrees and sunny! It was perfect outside! Temperatures definitely dipped down quickly as the sun was setting though, so I threw on my new blue suede jacket. I’m seriously obsessed with the color–I’m NEVER one to opt for colored staples over neutrals, but this is seriously the most beautiful color of blue–it’s simply stunning. It looks and feels like a $700 jacket, and it’s under $200! How can you beat that? I love it because you can pull it on over the most basic outfit and it instantly transforms it and you feel like the chicest girl in the room.
I actually wrote a hugggeee post on my favorite white jeans and 16 different ways to wear them if you want more white jeans inspiration–but I shared this pair of jeans over there as well. They are the best white skinny jeans I’ve owned–they have the perfect amount of give and stretch but don’t bag out. They’re a classic staple and go with everything! When you want to dress springy/summery but the weather isn’t cooperating, reaching for white jeans instead of your regular dark pair is an easy way to “springify” your outfit without sacrificing warmth. I also think they are easier to dress up for daytime vs. regular jeans, which always look casual! For example, this is a very casual outfit, and I think the white jeans made it look far more classic, crisp, and classy than it would have had I worn my regular average jeans.
I bought these woven slides particularly with travel in mind. They need to be easy to slip on and off for security as well as the airplane (because sometimes your feet are freezing, sometimes they’re hot–you know?!) I love that they’re close-toed but also white, which makes them feel appropriate for spring and summer! They are also super comfy–they’re a more polished alternative to sneakers when you want something comfy!
I’ve actually had this tee for about 4 years now 😂 I own a lot of striped shirts, but this is one of my go-to’s I think because the stripes are so tiny and subtle, so they such a nice little teeny hint of pattern! (I highly recommend a tiny stripe when you want to mix prints as well–this shirt looks adorable paired with florals or polka dots!) I’m linking some similar favorites below:
Okay, so now that we covered my casual girls-night get-up, let’s talk about my favorite girls night spots!
Side note: How adorable are the little subtle scallops on these woven slides!? It makes me love them even more!
Best Chicago Restaurants for Girls Dinner or Brunch:
For dinner, we went to Athenian room, which honestly, I would not classify as a “girls night” spot–I would classify it as an “every occasion for everyone” spot. It’s the best greek food (in my opinion) in the city–it’s cheap, and connected to one of my favorite Irish pubs, so you can have a pint and wait for a table. We all adore it so it was an easy choice for us. BUT, there are lot’s of other great spots for girls dinner, so here are some of my favorites–all located in various neighborhoods!
Wicker Park/Bucktown/Logan Square:
The Robey is one of my absolute favorite spots in the city. Their downstairs cafe has something for everyone–it’s amazing for brunch (although I have not had dinner here, the dinner menu looks great too!) They have a lounge on the second floor which is fun and swanky for cocktails, and a rooftop deck which fills up fast, but worth the wait (you can put your name in and wait in the second floor lounge until a spot is available!) No trip here is complete without a girls pic with the skyline in the back! (Even if it’s cold, they still have an indoor/enclosed portion, so it’s awesome year round!)
Ok admittedly I haven’t actually been here but I’ve been DYING to go. It’s the most beautiful boho-eclectic decor you’ve ever seen, and the new American/fusion menu looks amazing! I’ve heard it’s great for both brunch and dinner.
A well-known name in Chicago, their Wicker Park outpost is just the right amount of trendy-laid-back-upscale-casual. Don’t leave without getting the wings and the burger! Great for brunch and dinner as well.
If you want a fun atmosphere, outdoor seating and super cheap eats–big star is your bet! You’ll have to wait a long time for a table (they don’t take resos) but there are plenty of places around to go and have a drink while you wait!
Another budget-friendly favorite–amazing cuban food, BYOB, and they make your bottle of wine into the most delicious sangria you’ve ever tasted!
BYOB but it doesn’t feel like a standard BYOB sushi restaurant! It’s really good even for non sushi lovers!
The name says it all–it’s summer year round at this spot. You really feel like you’re in Southern California, and the food is really awesome! Great for brunch, lunch or dinner! Their next door spot, Stella Barra, is awesome as well!
I may be biased about this place because I lived across the street for three years, but this has always been one of my favorite restaurants in the city. They have a cute little sidewalk patio in the summer months–the decor is beautiful, and the food and cocktails are ALWAYS good. Get the short rib or steak frites! Both are to die for.
I also recommend this for a date night spot–it’s very dark and candlelit so it’s very romantic, but the portions are huge (perfect for splitting with girlfriends) and it’s BYOB, which makes it very budget-friendly. Your girlfriends will appreciate the cute Argentinian waiters.
One of my favorite places in Lincoln Park, which also has one of the best skyline views in the city. Another great spot to come when its chilly (or nice) because they enclose the rooftop when its cold! They have awesome cocktails–I haven’t eaten here, but I’ve heard it’s great!
This spot on the beach just opened last year and I’ve been dying to go! This would be an awesome place to come for a bachelorette party as well because it’s actually a “beach club” where you can sip cocktails and lounge on plush cabanas!
Hands down, the best place for the ULTIMATE girls night–it’s a drag queen supper club–the entertainment is phenomenal (shows every half hour) and they have like 50+ different martinis on the menu! They’re also open for brunch, and I’ve heard they have bottomless mimosas!
River North/ Gold Coast/ Downtown/West Loop:
This is my #1 most recommended spot for visitors staying downtown. It has the coolest views (of both the skyline and the harbor!) and a great brunch menu. Even if you just go for cocktails, it’s a must-do!
Chicago’s preppiest restaurant 😜 It’s so cute, you feel like you’ve been transported straight to the East Coast!
I recently just went here with my college girlfriends for dinner and it was SO amazing. Small plates, all Mediterranean–so it’s actually not terribly unhealthy, either!
Another recco I always give visitors, it’s a swanky asian-fusion/sushi restaurant and it has something for everyone. Their brussels sprouts are out of this world, you can’t not order them. Oh and literally everything else on the menu is divine, too.
One of my favorite restaurants–plus, it’s actually healthy! (Ish.) They have a few locations, and the decor is stunning. You HAVE to get a chocolate chip cookie, too!
Top Chef (and now Iron Chef) Stephanie Izard’s upscale Chinese restaurant. It is probably the best Chinese you’ll ever have and the decor and entire experience is so much fun. It’s a great spot for a date or with girlfriends!
You’ve likely seen plenty of brunches or cocktails on Instagram from Soho House. Their downstairs lounge is casual but beautiful–you and the girls can eat all the avocado toast your hearts desire. Plus, they also have high tea, which is fun!
