You guys have only been asking for this post since I did my big closet renovation reveal in…January. (Where does the time go? I’m so sorry for the wait!)
So many of you, like myself, are city dwellers that do not have the luxury of things such as “pantries” (what are those?) or “linen closets” or–gasp–”LAUNDRY ROOMS.” I often get asked for my tips on keeping my *lacking in closet space* house from looking like an episode of hoarders.
I will admit, even for someone who is an avid hater of “stuff,” somehow, my house is still always cluttered with it ?(You too?)
It doesn’t help that I am essentially a walking tornado. (I know, I know. It’s something I’m working on.) But even so, there are definitely some improvements and upgrades I’ve made over the past year or so that have made a WORLD of difference.
In order to avoid a constant state of chaos, I have learned a few things that work for me:
1. Purge often, 2. Enlist the help of professionals, and 3. Invest in some key cleaning + organizing staples that will make a world of difference. (Shout out to Shellie and Hannah Chicago Organized Home, who introduced me to so many of the organizational products that I’m about to share with you, and helped with our closet re-do’s!)
So, if you’ve yet to get around to your spring (summer?) cleaning and need some motivation to do so–you’re in luck! Today, I’m sharing my five favorite products that will CHANGE. YOUR. LIFE. If you are a walking organizational hazard like myself. (Or, if you’re not, and actually just need more organization in your life?)
Like I mentioned above, I’ve been wanting to write this post for awhile now, but just haven’t gotten around to doing it. But recently, Ibotta reached out and said “Hey Jess, so, we now offer cash back at The Container Store and Bed Bath and Beyond–would you want to team up for a cleaning + organizing partnership?” I was like “UM. DUH. That’s where all my organizing faves are from!”
I know a trip to The Container Store isn’t always easy on the wallet. (It’s like Target but even more dangerous. LIKE OKAY FINE TAKE ALL MY MONEY!!) so I knew Ibotta would be the perfect app to introduce you to!
Have you heard of Ibotta? It’s an app that has tons of deals and ways to save–they work with a lot of major retailers–from grocery stores to Amazon, Sephora, Target, Old Navy, and tons more–and you basically get cash back or other incentives just for using the app! Huzzah!
Right now, they’re offering 5% Cash Back at The Container Store, 3% Cash Back at Bed Bath and Beyond Lowes and 2% Cash Back at Home Depot –so you can get cash money back in your pocket AND a cleaner, more organized, new and improved house–how’s that for motivation?
How Ibotta works:
First step: Open the app, connect your payment, and select your retailer
Second step: Enter transaction amount
Third step: Scan & pay!
- Launch the Ibotta app from your phone.
- Scroll down to ‘Pay with Ibotta Retailers’ on the home screen.
- Select the retailer where you want to shop.
- Add a debit or credit card when prompted to add a payment method.
- Enter the total amount of your purchase at checkout.
- Scan the barcode in the app to pay at the register. (It basically functions like a gift card, but is linked to your credit/debit card.)
- See cash back in your account, instantly!
- Go buy yourself a coffee because FREE MONEY. And you’ll need it to fuel up for your organization overhaul!
Ready to get moving? Here are my favorite cleaning and organizing buys that will make SUCH a difference in your home.
My Top Spring Cleaning + Best Home Organizing Products
Scarf and Underwear organizers:
I CANNOT TELL YOU how much these things have transformed my underwear drawer and my scarves (which used to just be a giant tangled nest). This incredibly simple contraption will transform scarf nest into scarf paradise, and also keep your underwear drawer from being a mess of chaos. They’re from The Container Store for under $14 each! (Plus, 5% instant cash back when you use Pay with Ibotta in store!)
When people ask me what to register for for their wedding, my #1 recommendation is THE DYSON VACUUM. This is the only vacuum we own and it’s so lightweight–it’s easier than sweeping and makes cleaning our house a breeze. (It comes with different attachments for hardwood and rugs!) Our floors get so dusty and I pull this thing out multiple times per week.
So, if you are not engaged, I would highly recommend keeping an eye out at Bed Bath and Beyond, because sometimes they’ll run Dyson specials, where you can save up to $100 in ADDITION to the 3% cash back with Ibotta!
Elfa Door Racks:
HUGE. HUGE. Shout out to Shellie and Hannah from Chicago Organized Home for introducing me to these magical Elfa Door Rack Shelves from The Container Store. They are modular and you can customize them for whatever you need–plus, they’re removable so you can take them with you if you move! (Perfect for renters!)
I literally cannot even express how much these things have changed our lives. Remember when I told you that we have no closet space? These have added an INFINITE amount of storage. We have one on my closet door and one in the laundry closet–it holds all our laundry and cleaning supplies! It has turned our hobbit hole laundry closet into actually usable space. We also have one for our utility closet that holds tools, nails, paint brushes, and other odd things that were impossible to organize!
They’re definitely not super cheap–but I don’t think they’re crazy expensive either–depending on how you customize it, they start at about $100 each–and they are worth every penny. (Plus, 5% instant cash back when you use Pay with Ibotta in store!)
Space bags are a must-have for anyone who has a lot of coats. (Hello, Chicago winter!) Put your giant winter coats in these and they shrink into nothing! Actually, not just coats–we put a lot of out of season clothes in space bags and store them under the guest bed! They are life-savers!
I think this needs to be a requirement for every adult human. These hangers go THE FURTHEST in making your closet organized and KEEPING it that way. PLEASE–for the love–stop using those horrific wire hangers from the dry cleaners that make your closet look like a rats nest even when it’s organized. These hold your clothes on the hangers (no more slipping) and actually save a lot of space, so you can fit a lot more in your closet easily! They sell them at both Bed Bath and Beyond and The Container Store!
You know that one utensil drawer in your kitchen you can never open because a whisk or spatula or potato masher gets stuck and you just give up? ?It doesn’t have to be that way. First, purge any utensils you haven’t used in a year or anything that is gross and stained–(if you need to replace anything, we got almost all our utensils at Bed Bath and Beyond!) then, do yourself the biggest favor ever and get these customizable drawer dividers–you don’t have to worry if your drawers have weird dimensions, because you just measure, snap ’em to your desired length, and then custom fit them however you’d like! They’re so inexpensive!
Do you have any favorite organizing must-haves? I’d love to know!
Thanks so much to Ibotta for sponsoring this post! All opinions are 100% my own!
