Caramel Apple Bar

Looking for a fun fall foodie weekend activity?

LUCKY YOU.

(I’ve got one.)

Pumpkin Spice lattes got nothin’ on  a Caramel Apple Bar.

I know from experience, because fall was in fall swing this past Sunday at my friend Kit’s house! She invited Maya, Emily, Nicole, Jennie and myself into her amazing kitchen (ahem, her Kittchen!) for a very extensive caramel apple experience.

Each of us brought a little something to top the apples– think chocolate chips, crushed ginger snaps, crushed toffee bars, nuts, pretzels, mini marshmallows, the list goes on. Everyone can customize as they’d like! That’s it, voila — you have a caramel apple bar! Extra points if you have a crafty friend like Emily bring these adorable teepees.

Kit supplied two amazing caramel sauces for dipping. The one that really stole my heart was a whiskey infused sauce, be sure to take notes on this one.

Here’s Kit’s recipe:

1/4 cup Whiskey
1 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Butter
1/2 cup Heavy Cream
1 tablespoon Vanilla

Step 1:
Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Then add the sugar and whisk until melted.

Step 2:
Add the whiskey. Let simmer steadily for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

Step 3:
Add the cream and let the sauce slowly simmer and reduce for 20-25 minutes, until it has thickened.

We figured out that actually slicing the apples and dipping them was actually way easier than decorating an entire apple, but I think both options are fun.

A clever tip: Take a cue from Kit and if you can’t find sticks for the caramel apples, just head over to your favorite Chinese restaurant and get some chopsticks. (Shout out to Lan’s for supplying those!)

Then, Nicole let us in on her mindblowing fall mimosa alternative: Apple Cider Mimosas! (Nobody ever thought of this before, why?) Just swap your usual OJ for apple cider, and you’ve got one tasty fall brunch beverage.

Want more caramel apple goodness (and just all around goodness in general)? Check out everyone else’s posts on the party!
