How was your weekend? Ours was BUSY. We went to Memphis for a quick trip to visit our friends Ally and Kevin. Neither of us had been to Memphis before and it was so much fun! It was so much fun to catch up with them and explore a new city!
We got up for a 5:50am flight home yesterday morning to make it home in time for Neal’s little brother Brendan’s Christmas play–this year was Beauty and the Beast and it was SO cute! (See Instagram stories for more behind the scenes!) He’s part of Lyons Township High School’s Adult and Community Educations Actors with Special Needs program and they put on a play every year that is always highly entertaining, and this year did not disappoint! It’s seriously the coolest program–he played several roles including the book seller, a knight, a knife (as in, be our guest) and a wolf. (If you know anyone with special needs who lives in the Western Suburbs, spread the word! Its so great! Next year they’re doing Oklahoma!)
Afterward we attempted to put up our Christmas tree which was NOT very successful (because obviously, none of the lights worked. When do they ever?) All in all, an action packed weekend and the madness isn’t stopping anytime soon! My mom gets in on Tuesday afternoon and then we’re off to the lake for a few days before coming back to the city for Thanksgiving, hitting both Neal’s dad’s side and Neal’s mom’s side.
I’ll of course be posting all the latest sales and deals and guides for Black Friday and Cyber Monday! If you didn’t catch my holiday content survey I posted on Instagram Stories asking what you wanted to see on GG this holiday season, I would love if you could fill it out so I can be your most helpful resource for everything holiday related 🙂 It only takes a few minutes and it would mean SO much if you could quickly fill it out!
What I’ve heard from you so far: The whole Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale thing is insanely overwhelming. You want LESS, more curated sale picks, rather than just a giant list of sales or pages of items on sale. I totally agree–so I’m really excited to reframe how I’m creating that content this year! I love brainstorming and collaborating with you guys 🙂
ANYWAY, speaking of Thanksgiving, can you believe it’s THIS WEEK? We usually keep things cute and casual for Thanksgiving, and I’m sure your family might too! If you’re looking for some cute casual outfit ideas for turkey day, I’m rounding up 7 favorite casual outfits I’ve worn this season below:
Casual Outfits for Thanksgiving:
Tie Sleeve Sweater & Leather Leggings:
Tie sleeve sweaters like this one (comes in so many colors, runs big, size down!) are one of the biggest trends this year and I’m absolutely loving them! They’re super cozy but also give off a more feminine vibe than the average sweater. I like pairing mine with leather leggings (mine are old, but this pair is this season’s fan favorite and one of my favorite brands). If you’re ever looking for outfit ideas, here is my biggest piece of advice: mix multiple contrasting styles together–so, a feminine sweater with a bit more edgy leather leggings, and classic riding boots! (Mine are old but I love this version, this version, and this version!)
If leather leggings aren’t your thing, I LOVE these faux suede ones! They’re so comfortable and super chic! Of course, no fall outfit is complete without a festive scarf! (The one I’m wearing here is from last year but this one and this one are similar!) For sunnies, you cant go wrong with a classic Ray Ban wayfarer.
Plaid Poncho, Turtleneck, Skinny Jeans and Ankle Boots:
How ADORABLE is this plaid poncho? (And its now on sale! This one is similar too!) I love pairing plaid and stripes together, I think it always results in a really fun, interesting combination. Style with a pair of flattering, high-waisted skinny jeans (these are also on sale) and some classic booties (these are a great ankle boot and one of my absolute faves! They’re similar to what I’m wearing in the next outfit, but a bit more classic and refined). They are so, so comfortable and don’t require any break-in time. They’re the perfect “in-between” heel that can be dressed up or down easily. Make sure to spray them with suede protectant spray! I use Scotchgard!
Comfy T-Shirt Dress and ankle boots:
You’ve seen me wear this dress quite a bit, and for good reason, it’s SO flattering and so comfy AND they just came out with the BEST burnt orange pumpkin spice color!!! Gaaahhh! There is also a sleeveless version which is great for layering as well (I just ordered the burgundy version!) Wear it with a plaid scarf and some cute booties (these are on sale too and have the cutest cutout detail in the back! Super comfy too!) This outfit is also perfect for a Christmas or holiday outfit as well! Sizing tip: go up a size if you want it to be looser (like it is here, I’m wearing a small)–stay true to size if you’d like it to be more form fitting.
Camel Wrap, Jeans and ankle boots:
For a cute and casual thanksgiving outfit, a cashmere wrap is always a great go-to for any holiday occasion–it’s chic, versatile, and best of all–super cozy! Pair it with a striped tee and high-waisted raw-hem skinnies (these are on sale!!) and a pair of flat booties (also on sale, if you’re searching for a new pair of black ankle boots, I really love these!)
A Floral Fall Dress and Boots:
I recently got this dress from LOFT and it is the most beautiful fall color and pattern! I love how you can dress it up or dress it down. For a casual thanksgiving, pair it with some knee-high suede boots (these are made by Splendid, who is known for making the comfiest stuff ever, and these are no exception! Note: the sizing tips say they run short, but I ordered my normal size and did not find that to be the case!) To dress up the dress, pair it with some classic pumps. It’s also an excellent dress to wear to the office and will look cute with tights as well!
Cozy Fall Cardigan & Velvet Leggings:
You beter believe this exact outfit is going to be on constant rotation this Thanksgiving weekend!
I’ve been LIVING in this insaneeelly comfy cardigan lately, haha! Sadly it recently sold out in this particular color, but it comes in brown and pink and is seriously the softest thing ever. If you love this pretty pumpkin spice hue, this cardigan, this cardigan and this cardigan are similar in color!
Also, these velvet leggings are one of my most recent obsessions! Several of you have messaged me on Instagram about them and totally agree! I wore them a ton this past weekend–both on the plane and around town on Saturday. I think they’re a nice switch-up from regular leggings and they look a lot more polished, too! They’re also thick, which is really nice for both warmth and, you know, NOBODY wants too thin leggings!
The turtleneck I’m wearing here is also one of my winter capsule wardrobe staples for this month–if you don’t own one, trust me, you’ll be hooked on them. They’re such key layering staples that you’ll wear over and over again!
Super Soft Cowl Neck and Leather Skirt:
Last but not least, speaking of my favorite sweaters–this one is DEFINITELY close to the top. (It honestly might be my #1 favorite purchase this season, it is so insanely soft, you’ve never felt anything like it, and so versatile because it also converts to an off the shoulder sweater! I styled it a ton of different ways as part of last month’s capsule wardrobe as well–pop over here to see it!
Also, this leather skirt is sadly sold out, but I really love this similar version! You guys know I’m a huge fan of my Lowland boots, but know that’s definitely not in the budget for everyone, so the Blondo Olivia’s are my second favorite–they’re the only other boots I’ve found that are snug on my upper thighs and calves! They’re stretchy in the back to fit to your leg, and are also waterproof–I’m considering getting the grey color as well (fingers crossed they go on sale for Black Friday!)
Hope you have an awesome start to your short holiday week!
