I don’t know about you guys, but this is around the time when the weather starts to wreak havoc on my skin, so the topic of skincare is on my mind even more than usual. (I have a separate post coming soon all about keeping your skin smooth and hydrated during the winter, so stay tuned for that!)
A couple changes I’ve made in my skincare routine lately:
I started drinking spearmint tea
This sounds crazy, but Neal’s cousin told me that she’d started drinking spearmint tea on recommendation from her doctor because it helps regulate your hormones, and in return, helps clear up your skin! It’s actually a thing–if you google it, you’ll find hundreds of articles backing up this theory! I’ve only been drinking it for a week so I will report back on my personal findings, haha!
I got a humidifier
The air has been SO. DRY. In our house. Even Neal walked into the living room today and commented on it. (You know when your husband can tell the air is dry that the air is REALLY. DRY.) I ordered this humidifier on Amazon and have it plugged in beside our bed. I love it because you can drop a few drops of essential oil into it and it acts as a diffuser too! My skin gets so incredibly dry in the winter and I’m hoping this will help combat some of that. (All my friends who have humidifiers swear by them, so let’s hope it yields good results for us too!) Dryness is one of the main causes of aging, so anything that helps keep skin moisturized is necessary in my book!
I started testing out a few new anti-aging skincare products
I was running low on my existing serums and got the opportunity to try out some new products from Colleen Rothschild so I figured, why not? Additionally, I’d been looking for a good clean retinol product (one of the most effective anti-aging ingredients on the market) so I was especially excited about their retinol night oil!
Keep on reading for my initial thoughts and which products I’ve started using!
Colleen Rothschild Beauty Review–My Initial Thoughts

Read on for the products I’ve started using!
Retinol (Vitamin A) is known as a leader in the anti-aging world for effectively reducing wrinkles and fine lines as well as reducing dark spots by boosting skin’s repair process. As I mentioned, I’ve been looking to add a retinol product to my routine for awhile now! (UGH as the my fine lines become more pronounced 🙄) A lot of retinol products (like Retin-A) are extremely harsh on your skin, but this formula combats any flaking or dryness with all of its moisturizing properties–so that’s a huge plus for me as someone who easily gets dry skin.
The oil also contains Vitamin C to brighten and even skin tone, and 9 plant-based oils–including cotton seed oil and evening primrose oil–to nourish your skin’s moisture barrier, and Astaxanthin, an antioxidant that helps repair your skin from free radical damage (which is absolutely ESSENTIAL in age prevention!) The website says you can use this in place of your regular moisturizer if you have oily skin, or on top of your night cream if you have dry skin!
I haven’t been using it long enough to see line reducing effects, but I am already giving two thumbs up to its moisture benefits, helping to even tone, and I wake up with a nice glow! (She also makes a Retinol Treatment Complex if you’re looking for another retinol product!)
I recently realized I’ve really never used a true “night cream” and with how dry the weather has been lately, I figured now was the time to incorporate one into my beauty routine. Night creams are typically a lot more potent and thick than a regular lotion. You want to use them at night so they really have time to soak into your skin, but also, because they’re so thick, they aren’t really good to wear under your makeup!
Anyway, this cream was MADE for Chicago winters and is considered intensive care for dehydrated skin. It provides maximum levels of continuous moisture while strengthening skin’s hydro-lipid barrier. It also helps fight signs of fine lines and wrinkles and helps to even skin tone and texture.
This cream contains a bioactive compound (found in fruits and veggies, and thought to prevent many diseases, like cancer) called REGU-AGE PF that in clinical studies, has lead to a 30% improvement in skin texture in just two weeks, and reduces the appearance of under-eye darkness. It also reduces fine lines and restores elasticity. I also like swiping any leftover cream left on my finger on my lips!
If you’re looking for one all-in anti-aging serum, this one would be a great one to check out. It targets the six signs of aging: texture, dehydration, elasticity, fine lines, radiance and tone. It contains more than 20 ingredients, including peptides, collagen boosters, amino acids, vitamins and plant extracts. I like this because it can also be used in the morning–it soaks in really well and doesn’t make your skin greasy.
Looking for a great skincare gift?
If you’re looking for a great gift for someone who is really into skincare, she also makes some really awesome gift sets ranging from $29-$49! I recommend pairing them with a beautiful Cuyana travel bag set for a truly amazing gift that would make any girl giddy. (Mine above are the “Ecru” color–I absolutely adore them!) Extra points if you wrap up these insanely comfy thermal PJ’s with them 😉
