Hot sticky summer weather has officially arrived (in Chicago at least!) I’ve been getting a few questions from you guys on insta stories lately on my favorite summer staples to help you keep cool when the temperatures spike, and coincidentally, our air conditioning went out over the weekend, so you could say I’ve been digging through my closet for the coolest clothes available, haha! (Don’t worry, fingers crossed we can get a repair man out tomorrow!)
ANYWAY, I’m rounding up my favorite hot weather outfits below. (But hopefully your AC doesn’t go out and you won’t need them as badly as I do at the moment.)
A Bright, Flowy Maxi
This is one of my absolute favorite maxi dresses! I actually wore it yesterday for a Fathers Day BBQ with Neal’s fam! I love the button detail down the front, the sweet floral print, and of course–the color! The best part about maxi dresses is that you can make them casual or fancy with just a change of footwear. Linking some of my other favorite yellow maxis above, too!
A Breezy off the Shoulder Dress
I love off the shoulder dresses because they are often just as comfortable as t-shirt dresses, but they look so much cuter and more polished! I like to go for loose, short styles, because they are definitely the coolest and they basically feel like you’re wearing nothing! Bonus points if you pair yours with a boater hat (this one is only $39!) to keep your face shaded from the sun!
A Striped T-Shirt Dress + Lace-Up Sandals
This is my favorite striped dress and I wear it everywhere, all seasons! It’s looser so it gives you nice, um, ventilation? Haha! And it’s also not TOO short so I don’t have to be super paranoid about it if it gets windy! I think every girl needs a striped dress or two, because they are so classic and versatile, and you can get away with wearing one just about anywhere!
An Eyelet Romper
I love this eyelet romper–nothing says summer quite like white eyelet (and, um, rompers?!) Pair them with classic, comfy wedges and you’ll be able to go from day to night in all of 5 seconds.
Classic sneaks & shorts
Jean shorts and white sneakers always remind me of when I was a kid! Luckily, things have changed much and they’re still just as classic as ever! Pair yours with a ruffle tank and it will add just the right amount of femininity to balance out the tomboy elements!
A tie-front romper
Seersucker is another fabric that absolutely screams summer to me! I’ve been loving the tie-front trend lately and cannot get enough of it. Not only is it super flattering, but it’s the one of the “coolest outfits” (haaa) that you can buy–that little extra cutout helps a lot! These rose gold sunnies fold up into a teeny-tiny case, so they’re perfect for travel! I also found these twins (sadly though don’t fold though!) for a total steal.
Jean shorts + classic striped tee:
You know me and stripes. During the week I can usually be found wearing some variation of this outfit. (Actually, I am literally wearing this exact outfit as we type, haha!)
Gauzy OTS top with a cool topknot
I love this gauzy top and wear it often. The fabric is so lightweight, it feels barely there. In the summer I often go more minimal with my face makeup and just swipe on red lipstick instead. It’s an easy mix-up that feels very French “au natural”–I wrote more about how to get this beauty look in this post!
