The Golden Girl

Chicago Fashion and Lifestyle Blog

April 26, 2016

All in the details

Off the shoulder dress street style blogger, The Golden Girl

Bracelet: c/o Monica Vinader // Earrings and Ring: Monica Vinader // Dress: Asos (almost sold out in red, but identical version here from Urban Outfitters! Also love this striped version!) // Shoes: Old, but similar here and love this flat version! // Hat: c/o Sole Society

Do you often look back at old photos and giggle to yourself over how quickly your style changes?

I feel like I’ve literally been through every “style” phrase known to man.

Except for goth. I’ve never been goth. Thankfully for my mother’s sake, I never went down that route. Although I did go through a “sk8er” phase with purple vans and parachute pants. Those were good days.

It’s like I walked into a hat shop and played duck duck goose– trying on the “preppy” hat, “edgy” hat, “trendy” hat, “classic” hat, and kind of worked through them all with some good old trial and error.

Have you done that too?

One of those major “hats” is jewelry. As you’ve probably noticed by now, I’ve become a bit of a jewelry minimalist. A couple years ago, I really loved anything with major sparkle. Arm parties were my favorite kinds of parties.

I attribute part of this, of course, to statement jewelry being really big back then. (Not that it’s out now, I still think there’s a time and a place for it!) But these days, I think simple is best. I absolutely love the simplicity of dainty gold jewelry–it’s both understated and feminine.

So when British jewelry brand, Monica Vinader, reached out to me to work together, I took one look at her jewelry and squealed a resounding “yes!” I love working with awesome small brands who are doing big things, so hopefully you guys are excited to be introduced to her designs as I was!

Here I’m wearing the Fiji Bracelet–in gold, but it comes in a bunch of different colors (rose gold, too–I love the detail of the metal drawstring fastener!) The Riva diamond ring is also the perfect subtle statement, along with the matching Riva diamond studs. They go with literally everything, year round! I especially love jewelry like this for travel–you can leave it on the entire time, and never have to change it! It’s the perfect accent to everything from casual jeans to flirty dresses.

If you want to check out her designs in person, make sure to stop by the Monica Vinader trunk show at Nordstrom Michigan Avenue on May 7th. (All those details below!) Purchase anything at the trunk show, and receive customized engraving free of charge! If you can’t make it to the event, you’ll definitely want to peruse all of her collections online and at Nordstrom and Nordstrom.com! (Just in time for Mother’s Day!)

Speaking of pairing perfectly with flirty dresses, I styled my MV pieces with my new favorite LRD. (Little Red Dress!) It’s off the shoulder (I swear everything I’ve purchased in the last month is off the shoulder, whoops!) and I’ve been wearing it on repeat. It’s great for everything from casual shopping to a bachelorette party. Topped off with my new favorite boater hat (I’ve been wanting one of them for years, and I’m so excited to wear this one all summer!) and espadrilles.

And yes, now that you mention it, my outfit does match my new bike! (Eeeeee!) She was actually my Christmas present from Neal but obviously due to terrible winter weather she wasn’t allowed outside until now. I’ve been loving life riding her everywhere around the city! (For those of you who live in Chicago–Caffe Streets in Bucktown has become my warm weather go-to–you can work outside on their patio!) Unfortunately today the weather is less than stellar, but at least we’re getting a taste of summer here and there.
