Today’s post is short. It’s sweet. But it packs a powerful punch.
This is a trailer for “Dream Girl”, a documentary currently in production that aims to prove to little girls (big girls too — who are we kidding?) all over the world how that they can accomplish anything they set their mind to. I came across it thanks to Marie and Hilary.
The documentary follows and interviews a set of female entrepreneurs (who are totally kicking ass) to fuel a larger conversation about the need for female role models and community in a very rapidly growing sector of business — female entrepreneurship.
Did you know that women are starting 550 news businesses every day?
That they’re the fastest growing sector of today’s economy?
(I sure as hell didn’t.)
What about how 92% of girls think anyone has the power to become a leader. Yet, only 21% of them believe they have the confidence to become one themselves. Why? If every girl watched this in school at 13, how would that change their paths? How they see themselves?
I’ve been there, one of those girls, thinking I wasn’t good enough to chase my dreams, and I still need a confidence push every once and awhile. So, it’s not hard to believe I was soon reaching for the box of Kleenex (in a good way, I promise) after this video started rolling! I can’t wait to see the end result of this film.
Do me a favor, and watch this. I hope it serves as a reminder that no dream of yours is too big. Share it, pass it along. Think about all the women you know who are totally killing it. And those women you know could be, if only they had the extra boost of confidence. Someone mentoring them, pushing them along the way.
