Dress: ASOS (only $43! Also comes in Petite)–they also have a similar black version with the cutest colorful accents and a small black gingham check version that is also super adorable! I am also obsessed with blue and yellow striped version for $80 and this blue ruffled one, too! // Sandals: Super old, but I reaaallyyy want this pair for summer! // Hat: Also old, but similar here and I also love this one! // Lipstick: MAC Lady Danger // Necklace: Dana Rebecca // Gold cuff bracelet: Kendra Scott
The thing about Chicago is that the weather can be sneaky. It can be freezing for so long that you just stop checking the weather altogether and then BAM. The one time you DON’T check the weather? It decides to be 55 degrees outside.
It’s okay though, I’m not complaining–luckily I decided to open my weather app around 2pm and got dressed as quickly as I could (with bare ankles and my white sneakers and, wait for it–my BARBOUR coat–not a puffer in sight!)
Over the weekend, we went out to dinner in Evanston with new friends, and Saturday we went to Piece Pizza for dinner. (I think it’s the best thin crust pizza in the city!) Sunday we had a few friends over for the Superbowl, which was so fun!
One of our favorite parts of our new place is that there is actually room to entertain! I made buffalo chicken in the crockpot and set up a buffalo chicken taco bar–it was so easy–if you’re ever looking for a no-fuss way to feed a casual crowd, I can’t say enough good things. All you do is combine chicken breasts in the crock pot with 1 bottle of hot sauce. I also sprinkled in some garlic powder and seasoning salt. Cook it on low for 5-7 hours, shred it, and put it back in the crock pot, mix it well with the sauce, and serve with flour tortillas and your favorite toppings. (I also made pickled onions and cabbage slaw to go on top!)
On another note (and speaking of great weather) I’m excited to share these photos that we snapped on our last day staying at Secrets Playa Mujeres resort in Cancun! We were on our way to breakfast at the restaurant overlooking the beach and were trying to soak up every last moment! Every time Neal and I talk about Mexico, we start itching to go back. (If you’re also looking to plan a warm weather getaway, I wrote a whole review on our experience here. It was sooo wonderful!!)
I know I keep saying this, but I’m honestly so shocked with how much fun we had at an all-inclusive resort. I always thought I would get bored, but if I could pick anywhere to go on vacation right this minute, I would choose to go right back!
This little gingham dress is such a great buy for any warm weather vacation you might be going on! It’s lightweight, easy to dress up and down, and it’s made of a gauzy-linen-y-type of material (a very official term–clearly you can tell I majored in journalism and NOT fashion–haha!) that is supposed to be a little bit wrinkled, you know? So you don’t have to worry about looking like a disheveled mess when you put it on after being tucked in your beach bag! (By the way, I shared all my beach bag essentials right here!
I stumbled upon it while browsing ASOS before our trip and g-chatted it to Kelly–she INSISTED that I purchase it immediately. (Obviously, it’s gingham AND navy–her two favorite things) but I’m glad she talked me into it–it’s absolutely adorable and is a great wardrobe staple for vacation and for everyday come spring and summer.
(Thanks Kellllyyyyy you were righttt.)
Also related, last night my friend Annie asked for more winter vacation dress recco’s for her upcoming trip to Florida. So, in case you AND Annie are looking for cute warm-weather dresses, here are some of my other favorites! 😛
