Silk and lace camisole: old (I know, it was a really sad day when this went out of stock. Luckily, there are lot’s of other similar versions out there!) I also love LOFT and Sezane’s lace trim camisoles as well as Abercrombie’s! If you prefer classic silk without the lace, Everlane makes a really pretty version. Also, Cami NYC–more of a splurge but their tops are beautttifull. Shop more CamiNYC here! Jeans: J.Brand Maria high-waisted jeans in “Bluebird” wash. Come in lot’s of other colors too–J.Brand is one of my favorite jean brands–you can shop all their styles here! They are seriously the most flattering jeans I own and I’ve had them for years. (Abercrombie makes a good dupe that I wear a ton, too if you aren’t in the position to splurge on J.Brands!) Pumps: Sam Edelman. (Mine you see here are super old and sling-backs but they’re basically the same style! They also make these slingbacks with a lower heel if you prefer that! SE makes some of my favorite shoes–they have so many cute classic pumps, too. Shopbop has a HUGE selection, which you can shop here! Leopard Clutch: B.P. at Nordstrom (only $45!) Camel coat: Ann Taylor (similar here!) Weirdly I cannot find any fully-stocked similar camel coats right now! Gah! Sorry guys.)
Happy Tuesday, guys!
It’s been a pretty good week so far over here. Tomorrow I’m excited (and slightly nervous) because I’m speaking at “Ask the Expert” day at my sister-in-law Maura’s high school! (She’s a teacher, not a student, haha!) I’ll be speaking to three different classes about what it’s like to have a career as a blogger! Wish me luck!
Anyyyyway. Piggybacking off of my three date night outfits I shared last week, there’s one more that I’ve been meaning to share with you for awhile now–and it’s made getting dressed to go out so. much. easier.
Honestly, it’s all about the lace camisole. Since I got my first one, I’ve barely worn anything else out since! The combinations you can wear with it make for so many easy and feminine going out outfits. Neal and I try to do date nights as much as we can–since he travels so much for work, the weekends are really our only opportunities to spend time together, so we like to make it count–so, you can say, I’ve had a lot of experience in this category.
What I’ve discovered is this: your late twenties/early thirties are a really weird time to get dressed to go out. You aren’t super young anymore, but you aren’t old either. You’re trying to strike a balance between sexy but not too sexy. You don’t want to dress like a grandma but you don’t want to be mistaken for a lady of the night either.
What’s a 29 year old to do when it comes to putting together going out outfits??
Today, I am sharing the answer!
The only “night out” outfit you’ll ever need.
It’s my going-out uniform! And it’s simple, really. My formula is this:
1 slip camisole + skinny jeans + sleek pumps = the perfect sexy (but not too sexy) going out ensemble that works for everything from a romantic date night to a girls trip to Vegas.
The slip camisole:
This really is one of the best things I’ve ever owned. It’s one of the few wardrobe staples that you really can wear year-round. The one I’m wearing here is *sigh* old, but there are so many similar ones I know you’ll find one you love equally as much. There are a ton of them available at all different price points–from real silk to faux silk, lace-adorned or not.
They’re not just great for date night, either–they’re also amazing layering pieces under a chunky cardigan, a slouchy-shouldered sweater, or even under a blazer. In the winter, I just throw my coat on over it. (It’s always warm inside wherever you’re going!) A leather jacket works great, too!
High-waisted skinny jeans:
I’m not going spend a ton of time on these, because you probably think I’m a broken record already. If you don’t yet own high-waisted jeans, you need to jump on the bandwagon! They are the most flattering jeans around because they suck in your tummy, define your waist, and add about 6 extra inches to your legs! (They’re one of my tips in my “How to make your legs look longer” post!)
My most flattering pair of jeans are theJ.Brand Maria jeans in “Bluebird” wash–they’re a super dark, almost black blue hue. The darker your jeans, the more flattering they are! Abercrombie’s high-waisted skinny jeans are also a really great pair that I wear a ton! (And they’re so budget-friendly, too!)
I’ve had these pumps for YEARS. Honestly, I think I bought them four years ago and I’ve worn them for everything from work to weddings to date nights and everything in between. (Note: Mine are an older version that are slingback, but they’re essentially the same!) Classic black pumps never go out of style, and Sam Edelman makes my favorite shoes. They’re really comfortable and will last you a really long time! The pointed toes also help to elongate your legs, which, you know, is always a big plus ?
Do you have a “going out” uniform, too? I’d love to know what it is!
