I can’t believe our wedding is in just a few weeks!
The “getting ready” portion of the day is always one of my favorite parts (at least, it has been as a bridesmaid! I’m sure I will love it even more when I’m actually the bride!)
To get ready on our big day, Neal and I booked two terrace suites (one for the girls, one for the boys) in downtown Portland at the Sentinel Hotel – it’s absolutely stunning! We actually got adjoining rooms, each with beautiful outdoor terraces so our wedding party can go back and forth and hang out all together – we’ll be setting up a bloody mary bar in the boys’ room and a champagne bar in the girls’ room! (And don’t worry, Neal and I will not be going back and forth. Mr. Traditional says he doesn’t want to see me until later :-P)
I thought it would be fun to share with you my idea for this simple, but elegant champagne cocktail bar!
Start with a quality (but affordable) bubbly
I actually prefer Prosecco to Champagne as it’s typically lighter, slightly sweeter, and overall, less of that “sharp” taste you get from champagne. The two also differ because they’re made in different regions – Champagne, of course, cannot be considered Champagne unless it’s produced in the Champagne region of France. Similarly, Prosecco is not “Prosecco” unless it’s made in Italy!
Another lesser-known fact – you can get much more bang for your buck with Prosecco–and easily score a high quality bottle starting at around $13-$15. With Champagne, on the other hand, you have to spend considerably more than that for a drinkable bottle.
Personally, I love using Chloe’s Prosecco (and yes, it is made in Italy!) because it tastes amazing all by itself or combined with your favorite juice or mixers. It’s super crisp and refreshing with notes of fresh fruit. And, it only costs around $15 or less per bottle. You can click this link to find a store that stocks it in your area.)
This also goes without saying, but I’m also a sucker for great packaging. What could make a bubbly bar cuter than a few bottles of Prosecco with a bow!? (Not to mention, great for wedding photos, haha!)
Get creative with your fixings
I will admit, I’m not really a huge fan of orange juice–so I like to pick up a few different specialty juices for those who like to mix things up! A green juice is a great mixer because it’s full of nutrients and it’s not nearly as acidic as classic OJ. Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice is always delicious, and have you ever tried watermelon or pomegranate juice?
Add a scoop of sorbet for an extra special treat!
My favorite type of sparkling cocktail is as impressive as it is simple–just add a scoop of your favorite sorbet! Here, I used raspberry sorbet, but it would also be delicious with mango or peach. Top off the glass with fresh berries or a slice of fruit. (These compliment the notes of apples and peaches in Chloe’s Prosecco perfectly!) To take things up a notch, you could also add a splash of liqueur with the same flavor profile–raspberry liqueur would be delicious here!
Jess’ Bubbly Bridal Cocktail:
1 glass chilled Chloe Prosecco
1 scoop raspberry sorbet
Splash of raspberry liqueur
To make, pour a half glass of Prosecco into each flute (the half-portion prevents any potential overflow!), add scoop of sorbet, and a splash of raspberry liqueur (optional). Top with another pour of champagne, filling to the rim, and garnish with a fresh raspberry!
A little something sweet
For some fun bites to pair with your bubbly bar, make some super easy (and pretty) sweet skewers! Just pick up some donut holes from your local bakery or donut shop, and assemble with halved strawberries. (If you’re feeling extra fancy, you could string mint in between them, too!)
Do you have any other ideas I should add to the bubbly bar!? Would love to hear them!
