Shell top: Ann Taylor (also comes in pink!) I also love this pretty yellow version and this peplum shell is so adorable!// Jeans: J.Brand Maria Skinny Jeans–also available on Shopbop (Yay! Free 2 day shipping!) Sizing tip: They do run snug, so if you prefer a more relaxed fit, size up. This pair is another brand I love and also on sale at 33% off, and this pair is similar for under $100 // Shoes: Steve Madden Carrson Sandal (come in just about every color under the sun!) I also have their lower heeled version which I love equally! Sam Edelman also makes a similar nude leather version which would be the perfect neutral summer heels! I also love this version with the double strap! (How pretty are they in blush!?) // Sunnies: c/o Tuckernuck, I also loveee this more refined version, both made by KREWE, a sunnies company based in New Orleans! This pair is also similar for under $80, and these ones are only $25!// Trench coat: London Fog at Nordstrom, which is probably the best $178 I ever spent. It comes with a button-in liner for extra warmth (when you need it) and detachable hood! // Bag: Madewell Transport Tote–available at Madewell (you can get it monogrammed here) Nordstrom and Shopbop! // Lipstick: Estee Lauder Lip Vinyl in “Burn” // Earrings: Old, but similar here for $30!
How is your week going so far? Admittedly I feel like I’m getting a slower start to the week. The combination of the absolutely incredible weather we’re having and possessing a to-do list so long it’s making my eyes cross, I feel like I haven’t accomplished as much so far this week as I would’ve liked! Oh, it also could be the bachelorette party I’m VERY slowly recovering from! This past weekend I was in Florida celebrating my good friend Leigh–it was a big reunion for my college girlfriends and it was SO much fun. (Too much fun for this old lady to handle if we’re being honest.)
Today I have a work date with Blair to knock out more line items on our Blogging For Keeps agenda, so I know it will be a productive one! We typically work together on Tuesdays, lately it’s been at Soho House, which is something I always look forward to. There’s just something about working in a really really pretty environment that makes me more productive–do you feel the same way? (Does that make me sound ridiculous?! Haha!) Also, if you go there for lunch, get the chicken club (SO good!) and order a warm salted chocolate chip cookie for dessert.
Anyway, speaking of productive days, another thing that I’ve found sets the tone for getting stuff done, is dressing up.
This might sound silly, but this is something I discovered long before my self-employed days, back in my ad agency years. if I knew I had a busy day ahead, I’d swap my sneakers for heels and swipe on some red lipstick.
While I don’t have an office to go to these days, I do have various meetings throughout the week, and I always try to strike the balance of professional without being over the top–essentially, I have my own version of business casual, which usually consists of dark jeans, heels, and a blouse–like this shell, from Ann Taylor. I typically go for one with buttons because often high-necked tops make me feel odd, so I like that I can control the depth of the neckline by buttoning or unbuttoning the top. (That way you can make it work for date night, too!) My other favorite button-up blouse is this one!
The heels I choose for my “business casual” outfit spin are typically one of two pairs: these, or these–which really come down to both color and how much I’ll be walking that day! Both are polished and professional and are suitable for everything from the office (MANY offices, anyway–I know some offices still don’t allow open-toes! If you work in one of these, I would highly suggest these heels from Everlane–they’re so comfy and I wear them multiple times per week!) to after work drinks, to an upscale dinner.
Another of my business casual essentials I don’t go anywhere without–my Madewell tote. It’s really minimalistic and professional looking, yet holds a ton of stuff! It’s also my go-to travel bag. Would you believe it holds my laptop, jacket, AND camera bag? Mary Poppins would be proud. I’m not a huge handbag person, which you likely have noticed seeing as you typically see my photographed with maybe one of four bags ever. If it wins a spot in my wardrobe, it’s gotta be pretty dang amazing–and I’ve never loved a tote more than this one!
What are your business casual essentials? Hope you have a productive Tuesday, too!
