Happy happy Friday, guys!
How was your week? I’m so excited for this weekend–between the weeks of running around like crazy, traveling, and having my mom visit, we’re excited to have NO PLANS aside from Zain’s first birthday party on Sunday! (We’re so excited! I can’t believe how fast time flies. Remember when I met him for the first time?! Wasn’t that like yesterday?! 😭)
Neal and I haven’t had a weekend to hang out just the two of us in forever and we’re planning on catching up and, you know, actually hanging out with each other on Friday and Saturday. What are your plans this weekend?
Today I’m talking about–wait for it–another favorite Abercrombie find 😂–this top–and it’s only $22! (Side note: a few of you have asked me if Abercrombie pays me. Hahah THEY DON’T! They never have! I just really love the brand and that it’s making such a comeback! It’s basically Madewell for half the price! Abercrombie, if you’re listening, feel FREE to hire me to continue to promote your brand 😜)
In all seriousness, you first saw me wear this top in this post, when we went to Flora Farms in Cabo. Here, I also happened to wear it out to dinner in San Francisco. We snapped these photos when we were wandering through Nob Hill, an adorable charming neighborhood not too far from the hotel. We were hoping to snag an outdoor sidewalk table at Nob Hill Cafe but it was too packed. Bah! Oh well, next time! (By the way, you can see my SF guide here!)
I DIGRESS. Back to this top. (By the way who remembers LEMME BORROW THAT TOP aka one of the OG viral videos?) 😂 I love it because of A. The color (it comes in a gorgeous dusty cornflower blue as well)–I love the dusty rose. B. The material–the fact that its satiny (is it real satin? I don’t know. But it’s satinY) makes it feel fancy which adds a fun element of juxtaposition when you wear it with a casual outfit, and it makes it feel a little somethin’ special when you’re dressing it up! C. It’s a camisole, also known as my favorite type of versatile tank. And FINALLY… D. It’s peplum, and peplum is INSANELY flattering.
What is peplum anyway–you ask?
Peplum is a specific design feature where a strip of fabric is gathered and sewn at the waistline of a top, jacket, or dress. It flares out at the bottom, creating a flattering waistline and emphasizes curves. If you want to do either of those things–peplum is your best friend! Peplum tops in particular are cute, versatile, and flattering. They’re a great item to add into your rotation that can be dressed up or dressed down, something ideal for date nights and vacations– I especially love versions that have ruffles at the bottom, like my cami that I’m wearing here!
How to wear a peplum top:
As you can maybe tell by now, I love a good peplum top, and if you have one, I’d be willing to bet there are lot’s of ways to wear it that you haven’t even thought of yet! One of my favorite pairings for this silk peplum cami has been with white these cropped jeans from Everlane (it would be cute with wide legged crops, too! I’ve been wanting to give this Everlane pair a try as well!) I paired it with super comfy chunky espadrilles for a playful flair that gives a little nod back to retro times, and of course–my latest favorite purchase–my trusty jean jacket.
More peplum outfit ideas:
I’ve worn it with skinny jeans (these are my go-to pair–on sale for $39!!), and these cute cork heels for a date night–you can see how else I styled them in this post. They’re really comfortable as far as heels go! (Yes, they require a bit of break-in, but they’ll be your go-to’s for years!)
I love it with high-waisted jean shorts (I promise I wear things other than Abercrombie)–I also have my eye on these not-too-short high-waisted cutoff Levi shorts. Top it off with white sneakers for a casual summer day exploring the city.
