Happy Wednesday! Halfway through the week!
How’s your week going so far? It’s been astonishingly busy over here with a lot of projects and deadlines happening! (I forgot what that felt like. 😂🙈) Today I’m back with a quick and easy style post featuring some items from ABLE.
They did not sponsor this post (although I would love to get to that point in the future!) but I recently have fallen in love with the brand and they were kind enough to send me some items to try out, so that’s what I’m sharing today!
A comfy midi dress, four ways for fall!
I know you also appreciate brands that not only make stylish, quality items, but equally important–put a ton of good into the world, so I think you’ll love them just as much as I do! I had heard about ABLE here and there but I never truly got the whole of their mission until recently, and I was really blown away.
More about ABLE and their mission:
ABLE started 10 years ago not because the founder wanted to create another clothing company, but simply as a way to employ and empower women, and give them fair wage jobs as a solution to end poverty. (Didn’t see that coming, did you!? Me either!)
This all came about when their CEO, Barrett Ward, and his wife Rachel, a Nashville-based couple, moved to Ethiopia in 2008 for Rachel’s work at an adoption agency. They quickly realized how widespread the commercial sex trade was and how it affected so many local women, prostitution being the only option available to help their families.
He then saw his wife at a local market purchasing scarves as gifts for friends and got the idea to create what would become ABLE–a business model that would give women opportunities to change their lives.
He hired and trained three local women to make scarves to sell to western markets–they quickly sold out, and 10 years later–they’ve expanded to work with manufacturing partners in Ethiopia, Mexico, Brazil, and India, and also have a large team of women in Nashville who make their jewelry in-house. They help women all over the world develop skills and scale their operations to create a lasting economic opportunity in local communities.
Pretty cool right? Okay, now let’s jump into some outfits!
(OH, and important to note: ABLE also gave me a code–JESSKEYS–you can use on your first purchase to save 20% off! 🙌🏻)
The zoom-approved house dress combo:
First and foremost, because this is the occasion that we’re all dressing for 98% of the time: the house outfit. Yes, this makes an excellent house dress! It’s so comfortable (like wearing a t-shirt, but a dress!) and it’s great for layering over the top as well! Perfect for zoom meetings! (And you can add a little neck scarf if you want to fool your coworkers into thinking you’re EXTRA put together. 😉)
Spotlight on: The ABLE midi dress
I was drawn to this dress because it is the definition of a classic staple that you’ll wear throughout the seasons. It’s super soft and comfortable (yet substantial enough fabric for fall, winter and spring!)
The length makes it easy to wear around the house and out and about. (I know my mom friends say dresses need to be long enough to be able to bend over and get on the floor with your kids without worrying about flashing anyone–and this passes that test too, haha!)
It’s loose enough to be 2020-approved yet still shows off your curves in all the right places–making it perfect for a date night, but totally suitable for work when you go back to the office!
Colors: Comes in tons of colors–black, grey, blue and burgundy in addition to the olive color I’m wearing!
Sizing: TTS, wearing a small.
Price is $110, but with code JESSKEYS (20% off your first purchase) it comes to $88! Code is valid on your first purchase for all ABLE items!
The perfect “run around town” outfit:
Another fall uniform of mine–anything with a trench, white sneakers, and a scarf! Wearing the dress around in the house in the AM, but have errands in the afternoon? Just throw on these accessories and you’re good to go!
Another reason why I LOVE the belt bag–it makes it so easy to wear with layers (rather than fussing with a crossbody purse!)
Spotlight on the ABLE Emmy sneakers:
I love that these have such a minimalistic look, but the slightly chunkier sole also makes them playful, and I love the pop of cognac on the heel!
Another great thing: These are leather, so they wipe off and clean much easier than canvas! (Although I do adore my canvas Tretorns, I wear them less in the fall/winter so they don’t get muddy!)
These are comfortable out of the box (no blisters!) but I imagine they get even more comfortable with wear! I’ll keep you posted as they break in!
Sneaker sizing: Size up (I’m usually an 8 but the 9 fit me best). They run short and narrow. I would not recommend if you have wide feet! They also have an amazing free shipping, returns, and exchanges policy–so if you’re worried about which size to get and need to exchange, you can do so as many times as you need for free!
Remember, you can use code JESSKEYS to save 20% off on the sneakers!
Dress it up for date night:
Last but not least, I wanted to include a look for all of you in warm weather climates where “fall” is still above 75 degrees. 😂 (But don’t worry, cold weather friends, it’s just as easy to layer on a sweater or a jacket over this look, too–I’ve got my eye on this moto jacket!) This look is perfect for a date night while still being comfortable. (Because it’s 2020 and that’s mandatory now.)
Spotlight on: the snakeskin booties:
These are Everlane from last year (or two years ago? I lose count of how long I’ve had them but it feels like a long time)–I can attest they are incredible booties and I wear them non-stop in the fall and winter. However, if you’re feeing iffy about Everlane right now based on what happened in June and would rather find an alternative, I would point you toward these Blondo booties that look very similar AND are waterproof! I have the exact same pair in black and I LOVE them–and the snakeskin pair looks basically identical to the Everlane pair. If you want something with a rounder toe, I love the look of this ABLE pair, too!
Dress it up for a coffee date:
Leith cardigan (it was my favorite pick from the Nordstrom sale, only a few sizes left! Wearing small) but this similar one from Abercrombie’s softAF collection looks so cozy too! // Dress (TTS, wearing small), scarf and bag c/o ABLE // Boots, old, but similar here which are on sale plus you get 20% off sale price with code JESSKEYS!
This might be my favorite outfit of the bunch–it’s perfect for a coffee date, a meeting, whatever–I love playing with proportions and a long midi with a long cardigan is one of my favorite combinations–it just looks so chic! (The same principle would apply with a long coat, too!)
Speaking of proportions, I also love a tall boot with a longer dress. To make it work, I personally think it looks best if the top of the boot just meets the bottom of the dress, or that there’s a little sliver of room in between! What if your dress is too long? Put on a belt or a belt bag and scrunch it up a little until it gets to the right length!
Spotlight on the ABLE belt bag:
This is also from ABLE and it’s the most practical little bag! It’s perfect for walking hands-free around the neighborhood or riding my bike! It also comes with a regular purse strap so you can wear it as a cross-body too, so it’s two versatile bags in one!
The bone crock makes it so chic and perfect for all seasons and I love that it’s different than a brown, tan or black bag, but still neutral–it goes with everything. Just enough room for all your essentials and has little slots for your ID and a couple credit cards, too, so you don’t have to bother with your whole wallet, but they stay secure in your bag. (Save 20% off on the bag and snag it for $103 with code JESSKEYS!)
