Sweater: Free People (last seen here!) Their Saturday Morning cardigan also looks so cozy! Also, Barefoot dreams makes a cult favorite cardigan that is so insanely soft–I borrowed Blair’s once and didn’t want to give it back! | White silk blouse: Everlane (they also just came out with a new silk blouse with pockets!) White jeans: Levi’s 721 skinny jeans(on INSANE sale for $27! Shopbop has a ton of amazing white jeans, and Zappos has ALL the 721’s on sale for crazy good prices!) I’ve also heard really great things about this pair for $64!| Cap-toe shoes: old, but identical here! I also love this version!| Bag: Vintage | Bike: Raleigh Bike “Superbe” (full review on it here!)
Why so much hate for white after Labor Day? I’ve never really understood it. After all, white isn’t JUST a summer color. I mean, haven’t they ever heard of “winter white”?
People often get weary of “mixing whites” too–like it’s the biggest faux pas that could ever occur! (Whenever people heard that I was letting my bridesmaids choose their own white gowns–the FIRST thing out of everyone’s mouths was–”Oh, but how will you ensure the whites match!? ?”)
I actually like mixing whites. I think the variation in shade adds more interest, and, more importantly–who has time or energy these days to worry about whether their whites match!? Goodness. That sounds exhausting. So next time you’re worried about wearing white on white, remember, you have my blessing to mismatch! ?
White pants, for one, are a staple that I wear year-round–yes, even for winter. (They look pretty darn fabulous with a chunky sweater and OTK boots, if I do say so myself!) Add this white silk blouse to that list too–it’s one of my favorite items in my closet. It’s so feminine and timeless, and there’s hardly any occasion it wouldn’t be suitable for! (Plus, it’s under $100, too!) This white cardigan is also one of my coziest fall purchases yet, and it’s the ideal outer layer for the barely chilly evenings we’ve been experiencing over the last few weeks. It feels like wrapping yourself in your favorite knit blanket, which is always a plus in my book, hehe. I purchased these cap-toe pumps (with a baby heel, but really, they’re more like flats!) last spring, and I’ve worn them so much since. They’re every Francolphile’s dream!
I guess when it all comes down to it, I’ve never really cared much for those social “rules” that everyone seems to live by. I like wearing white after Labor Day, what I’m eating for dinner doesn’t dictate the color of wine that I drink, and I don’t set the table with two different types of forks. (Although…I did register for some really gorgeous gold salad forks so maybe now I should?! ?)
We’ve been having the most amazing Indian summer here in Chicago–where it’s warm during the day but it gets chilly at night–so this ensemble with plenty of layers has been my go-to white outfit lately. I’ve been riding my bike just about everywhere lately (the basket is perfect for picking up essentials at the farmer’s market in the park right by our house–and, of course, you know, transporting my favorite wine and snacks to Shaheen’s house down the street, for example.)
Speaking of, Neal and I have also been spending as much time as we can outdoors–unwinding with a glass of vino and soaking up every second that we can of the beautiful weather before winter arrives! (I promise he’s USUALLY drinking wine with me. He just, um, wasn’t available for these photos ?)
Speaking of wine AND white after Labor Day–I wholeheartedly embrace white wine all year long! One of my new favorite fall whites has been the Chloe Pinot Grigio.
Turns out, it’s been the perfect beverage for this beautiful fall we’ve been having. I have fully embraced the autumn wine picnics that come along with the perfect 68 degree fall nights in Wicker Park. The wine has been pairing perfectly with some of our favorite fall dishes, such as grilled chicken and roasted vegetables!
Made in Northern Italy, (AKA, it’s the real deal) it has notes of white peach, crisp apple, and an undertone of Meyer lemon that is just as perfect for a crisp fall night as it is for a summer afternoon. We paired it with grilled pork chops on Monday night and ate dinner with the door open—it was heaven! Next time you’re picking up a bottle of wine for a party or just a night in, I highly recommend giving it a try! (You can find out where to buy it in your area right here!)
You could say we’re stretching out every bit of “summer-fall” that we can ?
