December continues to FLY faster than it ever has before! Did you have a good weekend? We had a very festive one that was truly the best. I feel like every year, Neal and I talk about all the fun festive things we want to do that season and rarely get around to doing them, so I was really proud of us!
On Friday night, we went to Zoo Lights at Lincoln Park Zoo! (We actually got there like 5 minutes before it closed, which, as it turns out, ends up being the perfect amount of time for two adults with no children to attend Zoo Lights. 😂It was cute, I’m glad we went, but we were fine with it being an in and out activity.) We tried to get Kelly and Mitch and the girls to come with us but it was too late for Emma and Lucy by the time we all got it together, so we just swung by their house to hang for a little beforehand on the way!
After Zoo Lights we did dinner at Gejas, which Neal had never been to (it had been SO LONG since I had been too) and it was even better than I remembered! It’s a Lincoln Park classic that has been around since the sixties––it’s romantic and charming, cozy, even a little kitschy, and absolutely DELICIOUS. Like, exactly what you want a great date restaurant to be. I can’t recommend it enough.
The rest of this week is going to be pretty nuts, because we’re gearing up to go to Quebec City on Thursday morning! It’s our “Christmas” trip to each other––we decided on a trip this year in lieu of regular gifts and I’m counting down the days. Quebec City has been on our list for a while now, and it’s supposed to be the most magical place at Christmastime! (Although, cramming in everything on my to-do list in three days this time of year may or may not kill me before we get there. 😬Wish me luck.)
Anyway, speaking of cozy and festive, in today’s post I’m sharing more details about the velvet jumpsuit that I think should be every woman’s secret holiday weapon. Just as fancy as a dress, but warmer, and more practical because PANTS.
The best velvet jumpsuit:
It’s of course, from J.Crew, which is usually my mainstay when it comes to great winter staples. I don’t know what it is about their winter stuff that wins every time, but it does. Right now, J.Crew is having a 40% off + extra 15% off flash sale, but sadly it doesn’t include this jumpsuit. (It was on sale a couple days before Black Friday and it sold out SO FAST. I think they decided that not to include it in any future sales. 😂) If you’re looking for more J.Crew reccos, this post has a list of my favorites! This adorable jumpsuit, however, IS part of the sale–I just ordered it so I will report back!
Nevertheless, I think it’s worth the full-price investment. I’ve posted this over on IG stories a couple times and got a few FAQ’s, so I’ll answer those here!
Can I wear this to my work holiday party?
You can wear it everywhere this season–from holiday parties to weddings to New Years Eve. It’s nice and conservative enough for your office holiday party, but stylish enough for your friends or family holiday parties as well. (My MIL is wearing this for Christmas Eve this year!)
How tall are you?
I’m 5’6 and it hits me right above the ankle. I think it would’ve looked cute even more cropped too! It also comes in petite and tall!
Will that be flattering on X body type?
I think this will be flattering on a LOT of different body types because of the cut. Anything that is v-neck and form-fitting through the waist is flattering on all body types. Both of these factors draw the eye downward and accentuate your shape! Even better–the bow accentuates the waist even more, in addition to just being adorable, it makes it more flattering, too!
What accessories do you wear with it?
Anything you’d wear with a black dress I would wear with this. You can’t go wrong with a pair of black pumps (I love the squared cut of Everlane’s Editor Heels, which I’m wearing here, or I also highly recommend Sam Edelman’s pumps!) or the Sam Edelman cap toe’s would look really cute here I think–but in general I would stick with something that is sleek in shape with a pointier toe to balance out the wide leg. If you want to wear flats, I would go with some pointed, dressier flats!
Honestly, I feel like most coats don’t “go” with dressier outfits, and that’s totally fine. It’s perfectly acceptable to wear a regular parka and take it off when you walk in the door. That’s what coat check is for! You can bring a nice faux fur shrug or stole to wrap (this Amazon one is such a steal!) around you if it gets chilly inside!
If you’re looking for a dressy coat, I saw this faux fur one at Banana Republic last week and have been thinking about it ever since! More of an investment, but it’s SO pretty. And one that you’ll wear again and again for any formal occasion over the years!
How does sizing run?
I would typically wear a 0 in a J.Crew dress that was cut a similar way. So that’s the size I went with here and it fits great! I’d say if you’re typically in-between sizes you should go with the smaller size.
