Have I been living under a rock?
Did you know they sell Korean Beauty products at CVS Pharmacy?
They have over 100 of them, in fact!
I honestly hadn’t yet dipped my toes into the whole “K-Beauty” realm, but when I saw that I could pick them up at the drugstore, that changed rather quickly. CVS has been making a lot of changes lately that are winning them major points in my beauty book.
For one, by 2019, they’ll be removing all parabens, phthalates and formaldehyde from all of their store-brand products (more than 600!) In the world of safe beauty–it’s a big deal!
Also, they stock not just great cult-classic Korean skincare brands, but a lot of safe, non-toxic, and organic skincare brands, too. (Like the popular UK import, Organic Skincare Doctor! Many of you told me great things about their rose lotion!)
Basically–you get what I’m saying–if you had previously ruled out drugstore beauty products as not for you, you’ll be elated to know that now, you can finally reconsider. (Also, CVS.com has free 1-2 day shipping on orders over $49. Huzzah!)
Now, let’s talk more about Korean Beauty, yeah? I’m not going to lie, I am far from an expert on the Korean Beauty trend. Like I said, I was a newbie before I tested out these products–and alas, still remain a newbie. BUT, here’s what I did find out.
Korean Beauty in general focuses more on plant based extracts rather than harsh chemicals. Due to this nature, many K Beauty are, well, naturally, natural. Haha!
I also did some digging on the Skin Deep database to cross reference the ingredients listed in all of the products you see here, and am happy to report I found nothing scary in them! Most of them are derived from natural compounds like charcoal, moss, Icelandic water and…snail goo?? (Yes…read on! ?)
Not only do K-beauty products have different, interesting ingredients in them that you wouldn’t find normally in the U.S., but they’re SO. DARN. CUTE. I mean–how can you not smile when your eye de-puffer stick is in the shape of a polar bear?
Plus, these are going to make GREAT stocking stuffers and presents for gift exchanges (because, it’s getting to be that time of the year again ?)
Read on for the products that I tried out, and what my favorites were! (Spoiler alert…it was all of them ?)
The Saem Iceland Hydrating Eye Stick
I have an infatuation with eye products. I feel like my under-eyes are definitely starting to show some wear and tear, and it has become increasingly obvious when I haven’t gotten a full night’s sleep. I love that this little stick is compact enough to stash in my tote or purse (which comes in especially handy when traveling!) It’s derived from Icelandic mineral water and Icelandic moss and kelp–it has a great cool, tingly sensation that feels amazing and seems to perk up the under-eyes nicely! Plus, it’s natural and eco-friendly 🙂
JJ Young Pore Steaming and Cooling Pack
This is a VERY bold claim to make, but I think this is my new FAVORITE mask. Yeah, I know. That’s saying a lot. But this stuff is not only really cool (literally, I exclaimed, out loud, “OMG THIS IS SO COOL” as I started putting it on) but effective, too. The top portion is the “pore steam” mask. I was really confused because the directions said nothing about heating it up, so how was it going to “steam”?
Within seconds of rubbing it on, you’ll feel a tingly hot sensation–it really does feel warm on your face! It “steams” your pores and targets blackheads with kaolin, charcoal powder, and juglans regia shell powder (I have no idea what that last one is but, I’m into it). You rub it in for 1-2 minutes and then leave on for about 10, and rinse.
Afterward, you follow it with the “cooling” mask for 15 minutes, which tightens, firms, and calms the skin. It’s made with charcoal, volcanic ash and grapeseed oil.
I did this mask about a half-hour before I applied my makeup for the day, and it went on noticeably smoother. My skin was also a lot more even in tone and it definitely minimized the appearance of pores! It’s awesome!
Elisha Coy Snail Hydrogel Eye Patch
When you think you’ve heard everything, and then you find out that SNAIL GOO is a thing people slather on their skin to make them look pretty. I couldn’t NOT order these under eye patches, I had to test them out myself. They feel…like you would imagine. They’re gooey little patches you stick on your under-eyes, but they feel sooo luxurious on! They are really moisturizing and cooling. I’ve honestly only used them once so I can’t speak to their long-term effects but I will keep you posted. I also can think of no better stocking stuffer.
Peach Slices Hydrate Mask
So, Peach & Lily is a super popular Korean Beauty brand, and they just came out with its “little sister” brand, Peach Slices, and CVS is the only place you can get it! How cool, right?
The brand combines gentle, natural ingredients like honey and yuzu with cheeky packaging (you guys know I’m a sucker for great branding) and the natural cotton sheet masks feature no harsh chemicals, dyes, alcohol, parabens or sulfates. The best part is that the sheet masks are only $2.49! Stock up, stock up!
Peach Slices Acne Patches
Same brand as above–another product that elicited an out loud “THIS IS SO COOOOL!” response! As you may have heard me tell you on Instagram stories–I had a littttle too much fun Saturday night and ended up sleeping in my makeup, which, as you can imagine, my skin protested dramatically. I had several breakouts on the sides of my face as a result (you can’t see them in this picture but they’re there, I assure you) and I used these Acne Spot Dots! My spots were noticeably reduced in size overnight! Between these and the mask, it cleared them up miraculously fast. Plus, they come like little stickers on a sheet, so they’re super easy for travel, too!
The Saem Saemmul Real Tint Lip Stain
I really love lip stains in the winter because if your lips get dry, traditional lipstick can flake off and just look, well, disgusting. I saw this lip stain by “The Saem” (which is the brand that makes the super cute polar bear eye stick above) and thought, “what the heck?” it’s less than $5! Let’s test it out. I added the “burgundy” hue to my cart.
I love it!
It really does last a long time and makes your lips the prettiest color. It’s also buildable, which is nice. It looks really dramatic at first, but then it sinks in and results in a color that is dramatic but still natural looking at the same time. One note, you do have to be more careful putting it on than most lipsticks, because once it’s on–it’s not coming off without a fight! It lasts well even through eating and drinking! It’s going to be my go-to lipstick for the holidays!
Have you tried out any of CVS Pharmacy’s K-Beauty products? Would love to know your favorites!
