Admittedly, I got a VERY late start this morning. You know those Sunday nights where you go to bed all ready to get up at 6am and kick off the week on a productive note? Yeah, that happened. Except then I mistakenly closed the curtains on our windows and it was SO DARK it made it impossible to get out of bed.
Womp womp. I hope your Monday started off on a less lazy note?
We’ve been up to so many fun things behind the scenes lately, I thought I’d share another “Life Lately” update with you today.
Late Summer Happy Hours
Have you been to any good happy hours lately? The past week we were lucky enough to get out of the house on two happy hour occasions! The first–Hugo’s Frog Bar with Shaheen, Blair, Emily, Maya and Kelly + baby Emma! The boys (Mitch & Neal) ended up crashing at the end–we needed reinforcements to help eat all the food! Hugo’s happy hour specials are crazy good ($1 oysters, half off wine +martinis!) I’m also still dreaming about their filet mignon sliders.
Then, on Friday evening, we met Kelly, Mitch and Emma at Frontier–also known as the spot where Neal and I had our first “real” date. It also happens to have one of the best outdoor patios in the city–$1 oyster happy hour specials and $8 frosé specials! (Yes, that’s frozen rosé, and it might be the most delicious alcoholic beverage I’ve ever tasted.) The boys got oysters and we also ordered the lollipop wings–which were so good!
Hidden Shoe Buffet
WE FINALLY HAVE A DRESSER!! I scored this awesome piece for less than $200 at Beehive (one of my favorite vintage spots) and it quickly become home to what I call Neal’s “shoe buffet.” Hmm. You told me on Instagram that this is very feng shui so I’m hoping we can find a better solution. Please send help.
Makeshift living room
We finally got the living room a little more pulled together. Certainly not anywhere close to being final, but at least we unpacked some of the books, got some items stocked on our awesome new teak shelf I scored on Craigslist for $75 (read my tips on scoring the best stuff on Craigslist here) and got some plants. (Although, I don’t know where exactly to put our palm.) Thankfully, Kira is coming over to help me later today because I am completely inept at spacing and arranging furniture.
Neal + Emma
Neal and baby Emma are basically best friends. He has been mistaken for her father on several occasions already–because if Emma is in the building, she will likely be in Neal’s arms. (Seriously, I have to fight him to hold her!)
Coffee shop exploring
Wicker Park has so many more coffee shops to explore than our old West Loop neighborhood! I’ve been trying to make a point to scope out new ones as often as I can, but my favorites include Stan’s (pictured above–yes, they have coffee too, not just donuts!), Holiday Jones, Cafe Streets (get the Thai iced coffee!), Volumes BookCafe, and Filter (which has really good food too!)
Excuse the terrible lighting in this photo, but Neal’s office is definitely the most “put together” room of the house as of late. Most recent addition: this awesome rug from West Town Re-Up! (Chicago has so many awesome vintage furniture stores–I need to do a whole roundup post of them all!) We have a LONG way to go, but I’m planning a full office reveal this fall. (Also, I’ve had lot’s of questions on the paint–it’s Dutch Boy ‘Grandeur Blue’ which is available at Menards!)
That’s all for now, hope your Monday is a lovely one 🙂
