Here’s a little sneak peak of what’s been goin’ on over here for the past several weeks–according to my iPhone camera 😉
Neal and I did a little mini getaway to Galena IL a couple weekends back and it was seriously the CUTEST place. We can’t wait to go back! I’ll be doing a blog post on it soon (and I’m writing a full guide for their website as well!) So stay tuned for more on that soon!
If you’re looking for a quick escape from the city–I cannot recommend it enough. We stayed at the cutest B&B called Farmer’s Guest House–if you’re lucky enough to grab some availability, snap it up! The owners, Susan and Don are the nicest people–we loved getting to chat with them and one of the highlights of our stay was Susan’s AMAZING breakfast. (She was on the Food Network and has won tons of awards for her breakfast!) Go go go!
You don’t need much on your agenda, just spend the day roaming up and down Main street and admire the cute little shops, restaurants, and fun bars along your way!
If you read my updated San Francisco Guide, you know my new favorite SF coffee shop is Cup of Joe, because Pimp, the owners dog is often there and will instantly become your new best friend. I wrote several blog posts with Pimp on my lap! 😂 The best part is that several of you guys who live in SF messaged me on Instagram stories and KNEW PIMP because you live in the area! Hahaha! It was a total I LOVE THE INTERNET moment.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve been getting acupuncture with Suzie, who practices out of Leah’s space! (You remember my skincare guru, Leah Chavie, who got my skin wedding-ready! More on that in this post) I can’t say enough good things about it–I’m going to help regulate my skin (I’ve been struggling with breakouts more than usual due to what we think is hormones) and it’s also helped me feel less stressed, sleep better, and weirdly, has helped regulate the temperature in my ALWAYS cold feet and hands!
Acupuncture can help pretty much ANY problem–Suzie says, “anything that you want to feel better can be treated with acupuncture!” If you’re curious, she is amazing and is happy to chat more with you about how acupuncture might be able to help! The easiest way to get in touch with her is to call or text at 414-828-9486! She also offers 30% off to my readers–just mention my name!
My mom came in town for 5 days over Mother’s Day and her birthday and it was so much fun to have her all to myself for so many days! Neal’s brother and dad were out of town for Mother’s Day, so we had a girls’ dinner (plus Neal 😂) with my mom, mother-in-law, and sister in law! We went to Gemini Bistro in Lincoln Park and it was PHENOMENAL. You have got to put it on your list if you haven’t yet! I also used to live above the bar across the street, haha!
My mom and I out in front of Gemini!
The next day, we went to lunch at Siena Tavern–my mom is Fabio Viviani’s biggest fan (he’s a former Top Chef contestant who is really talented and has a lot of amazing restaurants in Chicago!) so I had to take her to one of his restaurants! She somehow stumbled upon his Youtube videos a few years ago and I’ve literally never see her adore ANY other famous person, but Fabio is on another level for her–when I asked her what she wanted to do in Chicago, her only request was to go to one of Fabio’s restaurants. She’s so cute I can’t take it. 😂
Anyway, Siena Tavern it was–it’s one of my favorite Italian restaurants and we had the most amazing lunch. We split the bruschetta, hearts of palm salad and Brussels sprout pizza. It was all to die for!
Last weekend, Neal and I went on a date to our FAVORITE restaurant in the city–Boefhaus. It’s so, so good, if you haven’t been yet, you must go. Their steak is some of the best in the city, and their Salade Marche is the best salad I’ve ever had in life. It’s the best food in the most laid-back, cool atmosphere. We always sit at the bar! If you go, ask for Jessica, and tell her we say hello!
Anyway, pictured above: We popped into EZ Inn down the street before our reservation, and it was so much fun. They have really fun cocktails and the atmosphere is basically a trendy dive. Obviously I chose the booth next to the dog. This is Leica–AKA the sweetest dog we’ve ever met.
Soooo excited to finally break out the sandals in Chicago! I’ve been wearing these striped slides a lot and they are so comfortable!
The past several weeks have been so crazy–this was the first time in about a month I just got to do NOTHING and it was glorious. You know you’re old when….😂
GIRLS DINNER! Kelly, Shaheen, Blair and I went to Coda di Volpe last week to celebrate Blair’s birthday and it was so much fun! Outfit details: Everlane cotton crew sweater (TTS!), Everlane Kick Crop Jeans (size down when in doubt! The hems are raw so you can cut them to whatever length you need!), Everlane Day Heels (Kelly is wearing them in pink! Go up a half size if you’re in between!), Vineyard Vines pom pom bag, sunnies are $10 from Amazon!
Guess where my shorts are from? AMERICAN EAGLE! Haha! I know–first Abercrombie and now AE. I can’t be stopped. But seriously, they’re the best summer shorts ever and are so comfy and perfect for biking, too! I’d go a with the smaller size if you’re in between. Also, my tank is from Everlane and is also a summer staple! Size down!
Last weekend, it was FINALLY bike weather! I was sooo excited to pull out my bike (it’s from Raleigh Bikes!) on Saturday. I rode it to meet my friend Kai (she’s the awesome food blogger and the one who owns the Chicago catering company, Littlevent!) at Randolph Street Market. If you haven’t been, it’s a MUST visit and one of my favorite events of the summer. They have them every month and it’s basically the chicest flea market you’ve ever been to! A lot of the decor in our house came from there!
ANDDD the best for last. I was telling them about my “White T-Shirt Post” I had been working on and everyone thought I kept saying “Dwight T-Shirt Post”–apparently this happened several times before they all blurted out, ‘YOU’RE DWIGHT T-SHIRT!?” When I texted our group text saying “send me that pic we took last night” Kelly photoshopped Dwight in the photo 😂 😂😂 Hahaha
