Top: Madewell (also available here via their site) It also comes in this adorable floral pattern and in black (an amazing twist on a basic!) If you like the look of the ruffle sleeve but not the peplum look, you’ll love this cotton button down which also comes in the prettiest yellow! I also love this button down with ruffled sleeves, too! Jeans: Levi’s 501 Jeans in “Supercharger” wash–on sale for $74! (And lot’s of different washes/more sizes on sale via the Shopbop sale–they stock a ton of Levi’s jeans!) Nordstrom also carries a few 501 washes! Shoes: Everlane (run small and narrow! Size up!) Everlane’s loafers are also amazing and I’ve been wanting this pair in camel as well! Also how cute would this outfit looked paired with these leather mules from Madewell!? Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (sold out in olive but very similar here in a dusty blue and this pretty neutral color!) Sunnies: Ray Ban Bandana: J.Crew Lipstick: RMS beauty’s “RMS red” Hair & Makeup: See my everyday makeup tutorial here and my everyday hair tutorial here!
Guess what? By the time you read this, we’ll probably be on a plane to Arizona! ??
Fun fact: My family moved there from Oregon when I was in 5th grade and I lived through up through High School graduation! (We always went back to Oregon for holidays and summers though. When people ask where I’m from, it’s a confusing question.) Also, go Saguaro Sabercats!
Anyway, we’re heading there for a quick weekend trip to visit my high school best friend, Andrew! (Photo from our wedding below!) He and Neal are also very close. At our wedding ceremony he stood on Neal’s side–but we argued over it ? (He only won because he needed more numbers ?)
I’m also excited because my other high-school bestie, Christina, just moved back to AZ from California and I can’t wait to see her too! It will be a weekend of reunions!
Then, on Monday morning, I’m hopping on a plane for a really cool work trip through Wednesday! It’s going to be a whirlwind week, that’s for sure! ?
Anyway, today I’m sharing another cute outfit that I shot in Dallas with my blogger friend (and high-school friend, speaking of my high school days!) Ali of A Dash of Details!
A few quick details on my outfit and then I REALLY gotta go pack, okay? ?
The ruffled button-down:
How CUTE is this top by Madewell? I have been seeing button downs with a lot of ruffle detailing lately and I am ALL about it. You guys know I’m not huge into trends, but this is one that I can definitely get behind!
You know I always talk about keeping juxtaposition in mind when putting together outfits–so that’s what I did here. Since the top is so feminine, I thought it would be interesting to pair it with more tomboy-like elements–like the bandana and a more relaxed skinny-straight jean–and throw in the minimalist oxfords as the cherry on top. Whenever you’re feeling in a rut or you aren’t sure of more than one way to wear something, the “juxtaposition rule” is a great one to remember!
Sale alert: by the way, Shopbop sells some great Madewell items and they’re having a huge sale right now through Saturday! Make sure to give it a look to see if you can snag any of your favorites up to 30% off!)
More Madewell favorites:
Levi’s 501 jeans:
Speaking of the jeans, you know I’ve got a slight Levi’s addiction. I love them all–the 521 skinny jeans (in several washes), the wedgie jeans, and my most recent addition–the 501 jeans. These are an updated version of their classic original–straight legged and looser for more of a boyfriend feel. They come in likeeee 87 different washes. (Okay fine I’m exaggerating slightly. But there are a lot.)
The cool thing about Levi’s is that you can find different washes everywhere you look. These are the “Supercharger” wash ordered from their website, which happen to be on sale. Sizing really depends on the wash and how much give it has to it. I’d say these run true to size. Shopbop also has a bunch on sale, and Nordstrom has a couple as well!
More favorite denim (currently on sale!)
Another sale alert: So many of my favorite denim brands are on sale at ShopBop right now (make sure to use code GOBIG18) so if you’ve been in the market for new jeans, here’s what I’d recommend buying:
Denim skirts: They’re back, and personally, I’m very excited that they’re in style again! The days of the ultra low-waisted, 2 inch Hollister skirts are gone in lieu of high-waisted, reasonably short skirts. I love this Levi’s one and this AGolde one, both part of the sale! This Joe’s Jean’s one is also a teensy bit longer, which is really nice!
Skinny Jeans: My favorite skinnies of ALL TIME are J.Brand Maria jeans. They do run a bit differently depending on the wash (I’m told) but I own the “Bluebird” wash and they do run small. Shop more J.Brand jeans on sale here!
Like I mentioned above, the Levi’s 721 jeans are all so great and very flattering. I find they run relatively true to size except for the ones who don’t have any stretch (just pay attention to the material)–in that case, size up!
Non Skinny Jeans: I’ve been dabbling in the “non-skinny jean” category a lot more lately! My favorites are the Levi’s Wedgie jeans (I have the “Wedgie straight“–they look a LOT shorter in the photo than they are in real life. You can see how I styled them here!) but the “Icon” is a little more tapered!
Jean shorts: I love the high-rise and longer length of these jean shorts, which are sometimes really hard to find! (Perfect for those of us who are no longer 22 ?)
