A couple weeks back, when I asked you guys what you’d like to see more of in 2016, I got a lot of feedback asking for more “personal”, and “behind the scenes” notes. (Which is seriously one of the biggest compliments I can receive! You want to know more about me? Really?)
That being said, I thought it would be fun to do a monthly roundup of all the things I’ve been loving lately–that are all truly amazing in themselves, but might not necessarily make something like a full blog post! Here are five things that have played a big role in my life during the past few weeks.
Nespresso Inissia Machine
Sometime this past fall, our Lavazza espresso machine that I inherited so sweetly from Danielle stopped working, much to our dismay. As much as we love making French Press coffee, it’s time consuming and sometimes a cup of coffee isn’t the same as a delicious shot of espresso or a homemade cappuccino.
We finally broke down and ordered a Nespresso Inissia and OH MY GOODNESS we are in love. If you’re not familiar, while it’s an espresso machine, it still comes with little pods (similar to a Kurig) that you pop into the machine and a minute later, out comes a beautiful shot of espresso. Some machines come with a built-in milk steamer, but you can also purchase one separately. We liked the Inissia model because it’s the smallest, and doesn’t take up much room on our tiny counters.
Martha Stewart Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven
For Christmas, my mom got me an enameled cast iron dutch oven (!!!)
She knew I had been pining away for the white Le Creuset, which is quite a heavy (literally and figurately-ha!) investment. But then she spotted the Martha Stewart version on sale at Macy’s and snapped it up for me, and I’m totally in love. It’s not just beautiful, it’s amazing to cook in, and a snap to clean. (I recently made these braised short ribs and they rivaled any restaurant!) Dutch ovens are amazing for making any braised meat (think pot roast, short ribs, etc) roasting, soups, stews, and I’ve even heard you can use them to bake bread!
Heavy Duty Snow Boots
Heavy Duty Snow Boots
With this nasty weather, these boots have been getting a ton of wear. They’re all-weather boots perfect for snow, slush, ice, whatever. Since the sidewalks have been really slick lately, these are great because they provide a lot of traction.
I’ve been trying to embrace more coffee breaks in 2016. (You know, I gotta take advantage of that new espresso machine!) But in all seriousness, I like to try to take a break at least once during the day (sometimes around lunch) to just take a few minutes and browse through a catalog, read for a few minutes, or even indulge in a little Barefoot Contessa. (Or in this case, browse the new beautiful Room & Board catalog! I want those chairs soo badly.)
I purchased these jars earlier in the summer, but I’ve only recently been using them to their full advantage! They’re amazing for making and storing homemade salad dressings (just put in all the ingredients, screw the top back on, and shake!), doubling as flower vases, they make amazing beer glasses, ideal for Bloody Marys, storing dry goods like flour and sugar, and most recently–housing my Nespresso pods 😉 They’re especially great because unlike most mason jars, they have the wide mouth, so they’re honestly much more versatile! I’ll think of more things to do with them yet–rest assured. (P.S. doesn’t the phrase “yet” now always remind you of Making a Murderer?)
