Happy Tuesday, guys!
So, I’ve mentioned this quite a bit over the last few posts, but in a quest to slowly start integrating more “safe” beauty products into my life (balance, you know, making swaps where I can find safe products I love equally or more than my current products)–I recently bought Beautycounter’s lip sheer to test out!
I’m not going to lie, I’ve always been a little leery of “natural” or “non-toxic” products in the past because the handful that I tried several years back didn’t work nearly as well as “regular” products. (Which, as I’ve recently learned, contain a lot of bad stuff in them!) I wrote them off as not a fit for me, but as safe products are becoming more mainstream and more information is coming out about how much bad stuff we’re unknowingly putting in and on our bodies everyday, I didn’t think it was something I could totally keep ignoring.
I know many of you feel the same way, so I’ll definitely be sharing my skincare and beauty product updates that I make along the way! (But, important to remember: balance! I really do love makeup too much to give EVERYTHING up altogether. If you love beauty tutorials, don’t worry, I’ll still be doing those, too!)
Anyway, first up in my non-toxic search: Lipstick.
Lipstick is probably one of my very FAVORITE things in my makeup bag. To put it in Marie Kondo terms, lipstick brings me joy. Swiping on a shade of lipstick can instantly brighten my mood. However, something unfortunate that isn’t common knowledge is that lead is a very common ingredient in lipsticks. Yes, that would be the kind that is poisonous. (Gross?) Lead, as it turns out, is what gives your lipstick its staying power! (Hm…troubling.)
Goal: Attempt to find wonderful lipsticks that do NOT contain lead.
Easier said than done. I’m often pretty hard to impress when it comes to lipsticks–I tend need different formulas for different uses–for everyday, I love something that goes on easily, is moisturizing, and feels more like a balm. When I want to make a statement with color or need something that lasts a long time (think attending a wedding or an event), I go for something more matte. (MAC matte lipsticks are my absolute favorite. I honestly don’t believe there’s a natural substitute that is just as good but I am definitely taking reccos!)
Anyway, when I asked several of you about your favorite non-toxic beauty brands last week, Beautycounter was a name I kept hearing over and over! (Plus, Blair loves it too!) I thought their lip sheers would be a great thing to try out for an everyday lip color. After much debate I ordered the “coral” color, which is a pretty natural pop of color that isn’t too bright. (Butttt now I really want their bright red version!)
My package arrived on Friday afternoon and I hurriedly sifted through the box searching for the lipstick. I immediately popped the top off this lip color and put it straight on! I absolutely love it (it’s what I’m wearing in yesterday’s post, too!)
Overall: Two thumbs up! If you’ve been looking for a safer lipstick, OR even if you don’t even care about safe lipstick, and just want something that is a sheer pop of moisturizing color for everyday, I can’t recommend this enough!
