One Classic, Three Ways: The Cable Knit Sweater

Happy FRIDAY!

First Friday of December…and only THREE MORE until Christmas! (How ridiculous is that?!) The holidays are going by way too fast, I want it to slow down so I can really soak it all in. (Unfortunately, I don’t really see the whole “slowing down” thing happening anytime soon.)

One of my favorite winter wardrobe staples to wear around the holidays is the cable knit sweater, which you can find in about every variation under the sun. My favorite though, is the classic cable knit turtleneck. You can make it work for just about any occasion–work, weekends, parties, its even great with pajama pants on Christmas morning!

Sometimes with certain items, it’s difficult to envision more than one way to style it, and the cable knit sweater can often fall into this category: Okay…with jeans and boots is a given–what else?

Let’s jump into three fun ways you can style your cableknit sweater for any occasion for the holidays (and beyond!) For example purposes, I went with this one as I love the fit of it and the fact that it’s a mock-neck! You can pick your favorite below and then use the rest of this guide for inspiration 🙂

Pick your favorite cableknit sweater:

Every year, I have a couple different get togethers with my girlfriends around the holidays! Sometimes it’s a brunch, sometimes a night in, sometimes a gift exchange, an ornament party–whatever it might be, this outfit is casual, cozy, and feminine–perfect for any low-key gathering! Style your cable knit sweater with classic skinny jeans–I love this pair because they’re very slightly distressed in the knees, which is a nice contrast to the sweetness of the scarf and ballet flats. Speaking of ballet flats, how ADORABLE are these? Subtle scallops and bows? GIMME! I love me a red ballet flat.

You also know about my love for scarves. I’ve always wanted a Burberry scarf (something about that beautiful pattern just can’t be replicated!) but haven’t been able to stomach the price tag just yet–then I saw this new silk Burberry neck scarf for $150 and I’ve been obsessing over it ever since! I also just got these sunnies from Tuckernuck–I’m so excited for them to arrive!

Have you SEEN this houndstooth mini skirt from J.Crew yet!? To me it feels very British, andddd I like it. It’s the perfect festive pattern without being OVERLY holiday-ish. I love mini’s paired with OTK boots–if you saw this post, you’ll know these are my new go-to’s. I had a really hard time finding OTK boots that actually fit my calves (I have children-sized calves, they’re so small!) and these were the winners! They’re also waterproof suede, which is the best quality ever when you live in Chicago! I also just purchased this oversized cable knit scarf–it comes in this color as well as grey, too! It’s SO cozy, I’m obsessed!

We always think of cable knit sweaters being limited to more casual occasions, but it’s easy to dress them up, too! Pair yours with some festive pants (J.Crew has the cutest wool-blend skinnies that come in SO many colors. How pretty is this burgundy hue?) and lace-up pumps. Top it off with some tassel earrings, and you’ve got the perfect outfit for Christmas Eve or any dressy-casual holiday party!

What’s your favorite way to style a cableknit sweater?

Cute! I’m wearing a cable-knit sweater today with distressed denim and a pair of ankle boots for a casual Friday look. 🙂 I love cozy knits this time of year. I think my favorite look is the first one with the red flats. Too cute!

Not sure which I like best, but those tassel earrings in the third look are going on my Christmas list!

I can’t pick a favorite because I love them all! Such great looks. You can’t go wrong with a classic sweater like this.
