Sunday at the Lake

Dress: c/o The Garment Collective–on sale! (If you’re looking for more t-shirt dresses, I also love Everlane’s silk and cotton versions!) // Boots: c/o Sorel (they come in grey and an olive-brown color as well–I LOVE them) // Yellow Rain Jacket: Topshop x Nordstrom (old) but identical here , similar here and here, and also love this budget-friendly $39 version from Target) // Bracelet: J.Crew

HAPPY MARCH! WAHOO! I never thought the day would come! Spring is so close, you guys–I know it.

This past weekend we had a fun and relaxing few days at the lake house with our friends, Russell and Whitney! The weather was so perfect on Saturday and Sunday that it made me feel like spring was actually here–but it was also the best of both transitional season worlds: we hung out in the yard on Saturday and had a few beverages, took walks in the marsh with (get this) BARE LEGS and light jackets, but at night we laid low and played games and laughed by the fire. It was like the best of winter and spring all in one!

Most people don’t know this fact, but Indiana actually has some beautiful wetlands! The house happens to be in the perfect spot to enjoy both the wetlands and the beach–so whenever the weather is nice, we love walking through the marsh and the woods. Last week, they got hit with a ton of snow, but luckily it all melted away with the nearly 60 degree weather we experienced on Sunday! (So I assure you, while there is snow in the background of these photos, it felt like Spring break outside!)

My Sorel Slimpack Riding Boots have been my go-to lake house pair of shoes this past winter, because they’re essentially riding boots and rain boots in one. They have rubber bottoms, but a waterproof leather upper–making them suitable for everything from swamp trekking to shopping, to dinner! Despite the fact that they don’t have a thick lining, they’re still really warm, and also great weathering for snow and ice. (Which was the situation when we got there on Friday, because, MIDWESTERN WEATHER.)

I also have been living in this casual and comfy shirt dress from Garment Collective lately–a company started by my sweet friend, Breena, who I met at Brand Market Workshop! In just a short time, Breena has accomplished so much with her new fair trade brand, which is so much more than just a clothing line–it helps change lives! All of Garment Collective’s pieces are made from slavery survivors and at-risk artisans in Nepal. They are taught the art of sewing, given fair wages and safe working conditions, as well as an opportunity for counseling. So, in conclusion, if you needed a reason to buy the dress, well–buy the dress! She’ll also be coming out with her brand new spring collection soon, so be on the lookout!

Finally, what is a muddy trek through a marsh without a yellow rain slicker? It looked like it was about to rain at any second, so I figured this little jacket was a must-have. (Luckily, the rain held out until much later that night!) The air was pure heaven–almost 60 degrees! So around my waist it went for most of our trek. I love this yellow rain coat from TopShop, which has the cutest patterned inside! (Note, the one you see here is gingham, but this year’s version has stripes! Equally as cute.)

After our walk, we went out for some crazy good Mexican food. (Because we hadn’t had tacos in like, a whole week, so you know we needed a spicy fix.) If you’re ever in Beverly Shores/Michigan City area, El Cajete is a must! This also has me thinking I need tacos again for dinner tonight. You can never eat too many tacos, right?

Hope you have an amazing Tuesday! (And let’s hope the springy weather returns soon?)
