Today’s summer capsule post was created in partnership with American Eagle Outfitters. Despite being sponsored, I am in LOVE with this brand again and can’t wait to show you more of my favorite [cute, versatile, and super affordable] pieces, and how I styled them for a long summer weekend!
Hi from Nantucket, guys!
I have a feeling you guys are going to reaaaaaalllyyy like today’s post ?? I haven’t done a capsule post in quite some time and we are VERY overdue! So if you’ve got a long weekend (or you know, a regular length weekend) coming up and you have absolutely no idea what to pack, that’s where I come in ?
This specific summer capsule wardrobe was curated to be extremely versatile, so you can wear these pieces anywhere you please–and of course, by all means, feel free to make swaps wherever you feel the need! The best part? I’m showing you 6 different outfits to wear for each day AND night, for three nights in a row, using the pieces you see right here!
The bulk of the pieces used in this capsule are–wait for it–AMERICAN EAGLE. So, if you haven’t really considered them in your wardrobe rotation since, um– high school–you are about to be BLOWN AWAY. They have so many great staples at insane prices (seriously, like starting at less than $30!) that are versatile, comfortable, well-made, and most of all–adorable.
I know you’re going to love them as much as I do!
Ready to jump into the capsule already? Let’s go!
Summer Weekend Capsule Wardrobe Packing List:
Floral Midi Dress: $39
Sizing: TTS, Wearing XS
I saw this dress online and was immediately smitten with the silhouette, pattern, and the button-front details. It’s so feminine and dainty! But then when I got it in the mail, I realized it was THE SOFTEST THING I have ever put on my body. ? At $30–I can confidently say this might be your new favorite budget buy yet.
The Beachy Cardigan: $49
Sizing: TTS oversized fit, Wearing XS
Despite hot summer temperatures, I STILL often find myself chilly–between cranked up AC in coffee shops, restaurants, (or in your case, your office–a common summer arctic tundra) and cool breezes on the water, you need a light sweater that is going to keep you warm but not cause you to overheat. It’s a fine line, you know? That’s why I immediately fell in love with this sweater, it’s a summer sweater with wide crochet details, long bell sleeves, and a hood to make it extra cozy–it’s actually my new favorite swim cover-up, too! (I was actually between this one and this one, which is also a great choice!)
Light Wash Jeggings: $49
Sizing: TTS, wearing my usual size 25
If you’ve been looking for a new pair of high-waisted skinnies to wear this summer that don’t feel so dark and wintery–I found ’em! Honestly, I absolutely love these jeans with the button-fly details, TONS of stretch, and a flattering high-waist. Also, I knew I had to try a pair of AE jeans because I’ve had several of you guys message me on Instagram and tell me how amazing they were! I love these rolled for a casual summer look–and I’m thinking of cutting off the hems so they’re raw at the bottom…what are your thoughts? ?
Ruffle Shorts: $17.47! Also BOGO 50% off until 6/14!
Sizing: A little big, go down if you’re in between sizes. I’m wearing a S here but could’ve gone XS
These shorts are A-MAZING. If you buy one pair of shorts this summer, they should probably be these. They are so incredibly comfortable, they basically feel like you’re wearing nothing, and they’re as cool as your favorite breezy dress. My favorite thing about them is that they pull on–making them great to wear to the beach, too! They’re also loose enough to where you can actually dress them up with heels while feeling classy and age-appropriate at the same time. (Usually when I try to wear shorts with heels I feel like I’m in high-school ?).

Mix & Match Bikini: Striped Top ($20.97) and Red Bottoms ($11.97!)
Sizing: Size up in the top, wearing small, bottoms are TTS
I haven’t bought any new swimsuits this season but I KNOW you guys are on a major hunt for them, so I wanted to order one from Aerie because, again, I’ve heard so many good things! Also, I don’t just love that their brand is incredibly body-positive (they feature models of all sizes with no photoshopping or air-brushing!) but their suits are really adorable too.
I decided to go the mix and match route, and went for this halter bikini (it has the cutest tie back!) and a pair of red bikini bottoms (and they’re not too cheeky either–they’re the best happy medium coverage!)
Shop all Aerie swim here!
Cork Heels: $119
Sizing: Go 1/2 size down if you’re in between
My trusty neutral heels–these are about as comfortable as they come! I can wear them all night without feeling like I want to saw my feet off at the end of the night. (Which is rare!) They’re a great mix of “barely there” so they’re super flattering but they also add a fun textural element to any outfit! (If you don’t like cork, they come in tons of other colors, too!)
Grecian Flats: $79
Another pair of summer shoes that win “most comfortable” award. These require ZERO break-in time and the leather is so soft! They come in multiple colors! (They also sell them here if your size is sold out!)
White Tank: $22
Sizing: Runs big, size down
Everyone needs a great white tank! (Similar here, too for only $11!) You can wear it everywhere from the beach to dinner–it’s always a classic choice!
White Jean Jacket: $118
Sizing: TTS, wearing small
I’ve been lovvvingg white on white recently–I think it’s such a crisp combination so I thought it was the perfect layer for this long weekend capsule wardrobe. You can get mine here, but this one is also cute (and affordable!) if you prefer a more distressed look!
Straw Pom Pom Purse: $138
I love a good straw purse! This one is so cute with its pom pom detail, but I also love this version! Straw bags are super neutral, so they’re a great capsule wardrobe option because they match anything you’re wearing! I also love this circle cross-body version!
Straw Beach Tote: $99
I am in LOVE with this tote. It holds a ton of stuff, making it a great travel tote and beach tote!
I love a good pair of affordable sunnies, because I tend to be accident prone and I won’t feel quite so bad if I lose them overboard, or accidentally scratch them! The pair I’m wearing in all my looks here is on sale for only $11 and I absolutely love the tortoise color and vintage oval shape!
Also, statement earrings can go a long way to dress up a look and make it suitable for a night out! I wear a few different styles here, some are old and some are current–but since earrings don’t take as much room, you can pack as few or as many as you like! Linking some of my favorites here:
6 Different Ways To Style Your Summer Capsule Wardrobe Pieces:
Outfit #1: Travel Day
The perfect travel outfit–with super stretchy jeans (they’re comfy, the perfect summery wash AND the stretchy jegging denim won’t make you overly hot, either!) a white tank, summer cardigan, and comfortable slides. This outfit is comfy while being chic, and warm enough to combat that airplane AC without being too overly hot when you walk out of the airport! Plus, you’ll be able to fit all your essentials (laptop, toiletries, makeup, a book, and magazines) into this seemingly bottomless Mary Poppin’s style raffia tote!
Outfit #2: Out to drinks
Whenever I’m on a trip, I want to spend as little time as possible in the hotel (or rental house!) so being able to just do a quick change of essentials is essential. Keep the jeans and tank, swap flats for neutral heels, upgrade to statement earrings, swap the tote for a cute pom pom bag, and trade your cozy sweater for a crisp white jean jacket–and you’re ready to hit the town!
Outfit #3: Brunch and Shopping
Proof that this super soft summer dress is about as versatile as they come– wear it during the day with your favorite comfy slides and the “perfect summer weight” sweater if it gets a little breezy by the lake!
Another added perk–the length of the dress ensures you can walk around ALL day without worrying about a Marilyn Monroe moment when the breeze hits it just right. (This is something I have recently noticed more and more as I’ve gotten older and come to appreciate midi dresses for this exact reason ?) I know I mentioned this above, but just to reiterate, this is probably the most comfortable dress I have EVER owned–it feels like pajamas!
Finally, the raffia tote that was your travel bag yesterday is perfect for stashing farmer’s market finds today!
Outfit #4: Dinner Date
It seems like every vacation I go on, it’s always a mad dash to get home and change for dinner, only to turn around and rush back out again! I love a dress like this because it’s super versatile and all it requires is, again, a change of shoes, purse, and earrings, that fresh white jean jacket thrown over your shoulder, and you’re ready to head back out the door. This outfit is suitable for everything from a swanky downtown restaurant, to a garden party at grandmas, or a backyard BBQ at your friends new fancy house.
Outfit # 5: Beach Day
Beach day! These loose flowy shorts and breezy knit cardigan are the perfect cover-ups for a breezy beach day. (The shorts are especially nice as a cover-up because they’re not form fitting and they have elastic in the back so they slip right off–no awkward bottoms-almost-coming-off moment when you pull off your shorts!)
I absolutely love how easy it is to mix and match your ideal suit with their Bikini Mix and Match section–I went with the mismatched look here–a striped top and red bottoms– because–duh–I LOVE stripes, and a punchy orangey-red is one of my favorite colors. The two were basically made for each other. (I have the classic bikini bottoms which are the perfect amount of coverage!) Two more beach essentials: this trusty tote bag, and the easy slip-off slides!
(P.S. Can you tell how crazy the wind was the day that we shot these?! I was glad to have the cardigan, haha!)
Outfit #6: Last Hoorah Cocktails
When you get home from the beach, it’ll be time to round out your weekend with some last hurrah cocktails before heading home in the AM! Luckily getting dressed won’t take much time ? Dress up those same shorts you wore to the beach with neutral heels, your tank, swap your bag, add some earrings–and you’re ready for Margaritas!
Soooo what do you think? Are you excited to pack now? ?
Big thanks to American Eagle for partnering with me on this post and allowing me to put so many of their pieces to the test! I hope you give them a try–after about a 10 year hiatus, I am so hooked on this brand once again!
