Tie-sleeve sweater: Nordstrom (also similar here, here, here and here!) Leather leggings: mine are really old (they’ve been a staple of mine for YEARS!), but this pair, this pair, and this pair are super similar. There’s also this pair that is a faux leather denim look if you don’t like leggings! Scarf: from last season, but nearly identical here (but it’s reversible!) also, have you seen that this “it” scarf from last year is back in stock!? I’m also obsessed with this tartan scarf from Topshop! Coat: Barbour Beadnell (I also love my quilted version!) Purse: Rebecca Minkoff small love bag, the regular size Rebecca Minkoff is also nearly identical! Boots: from last year, but I loveeee this similar pair–if you prefer booties, I love these these and these in a similar color. Sunnies: Ray Ban Wayfarers (I stole them from Neal 😜)
Have you been having a good week so far? I for one have been enjoying this GLORIOUS weather we’ve been having. (Remember last week when I said it was getting awkward talking about all these “fall” clothes when it still felt like July? I feel much better now 😜)
So far, this week has been pretty slow and relatively uneventful! Neal is actually home ALMOST every night this week. During the week, work usually keeps him super busy so we don’t get to spend a ton of time together on weeknights! So it kind of feels almost like a vacation, haha! 🙂
I went on a major Trader Joe’s run on Friday. Somehow I actually planned ahead grocery-wise ( for once in my life ). So we’ve been making healthy dinners at home which has been awesome! (Do you guys want to see a TJ’s favorites round two post? You can see round #1 of my Trader Joe’s favorites over here!) We’re also trying to make a dent in our wedding thank you notes this week. I reaaaallyy need to start re-organizing our house post-wedding. (OMG I just re-read this paragraph. Domestic city over here. Geeeeezeee.)
Anyway, over the past several days, I’ve gotten a LOT of wear out of these fall favorites. I’ve had some requests lately on how to style more trendy items (like a tie sleeve sweater or leather leggings) with more classic items (like a Barbour coat, or riding boots!) so in today’s post, I thought we’d do just that! (I absolutely love getting requests from you guys by the way–if you ever have a question or blog post idea, just message me on Instagram!)
The Tie-Sleeve Sweater
So, first up, let’s start with one of my FAVORITE fall trends–the tie-sleeve sweater! There are so many different versions out there right now. I’m linking up my favorites below. Think of them like your favorite regular old cozy sweater, but with the prettiest feminine detail that really takes an ordinary outfit up a notch! I also like that it’s obviously very on-trend right now, but it’s nothing that the average girl like you or me can’t pull off 😉
Shop tie-sleeve sweaters:
You know I’m a big fan of leather leggings (did you see this post, where I showed you how to wear leather leggings three ways?!) They can often be daunting. They feel a little over the top, but not when you pair them with the right items! If you treat them like you would regular leggings or jeans, they can make a really cool statement while still being classy at the same time.
Shop leather leggings:
The plaid blanket scarf:
I think we can all agree that the plaid blanket scarf is the Pumpkin Spice Latte of Fall wardrobes. Yes, it’s basic, and no, we can’t get enough of them.
The one you see me wearing here is from last season, but they came out with a new, better version this year–it’s reversible! It has same plaid pattern on one side–a different one on the other! Seriously, just look at how cute it is. There’s also this plaid cape for only $39 that looks like the exact same pattern! There’s also this infinity scarf version!
Shop more plaid scarves:
I’ve had my Barbour Beadnell jacket for a few years now and it’s always one of my go-to coats for fall and winter. You can purchase a liner which makes it warm enough to wear on a warm winter day (sounds ridiculous, I know, but I mean–like, for when it’s “nice” and your arctic tundra Canada Goose is too much, haha!) The wax coating makes it water repellant, which makes it amazing for all weather (you can get a hood for it, too!) I also wear it when it starts to thaw out in the spring! I also have the quilted black version, which I love equally, if you’re more into that look!
Note: pay close attention to sizing tips on the site–since I purchased mine several years ago they’ve updated their sizing, so I can’t speak to it as well as the site does! (That’s another reason I like buying things at Nordstrom, because their sizing is really precise!)
Annnyywaayyyy, many of you have told me on instagram that this particular Barbour coat (the wax coated green version) is a mystery when it comes to styling. What ELSE do you wear with it other than jeans and a plaid button down? That’s where we go back to the old leather leggings trick 😉 Mixing up just one element gives you a whole new look! I also like it thrown over a t-shirt dress like this one (styled in this post) with OTK boots or tights!
Speaking of boots, feel free to insert just about any favorite fall boot you have here 😉 For this look I chose riding boots. I love how sleek they are and the fact that they’re equestrian inspired. (My pair is from last year, but this pair is super similar and sooo pretty! At a great price, too!) This pair is also a cult classic!
Where to get ’em all:
You won’t be surprised to know that all my fall favorites you see here come from one of my standbys: Nordstrom. Have you shopped their “trend” section of their website lately? I love that they carry such a wide variety of on trend items that are actually attainable–you know what I mean? Some of my favorite affordable brands that are my go-to’s when I shop here are BP, Topshop and Lush, to name a few! (Do you have any other affordable favorites?)
Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!
