I know, I know. Valentine’s Day gets a really bad rap. If you’re one of those people who hates Valentine’s Day, I’m sorry in advance…but I love Valentine’s Day!
It’s one of my favorite days of the year to spend with Neal. We always go out of our way to make it special, and it’s something I’ve always really looked forward to.
Even far before Neal’s time–when I was a kid picking out my Valentines to bring to school (I distinctly remember some Snoopy ones in Mrs. Lily’s First grade class!) and (yes) even when I was VERY single–I always looked forward to this holiday! Maybe it’s because I like any excuse to make a regular day a fun one.
The first Valentine’s Day we spent together, we had only been dating a few months. (If you’ve been following long enough, you’ve probably heard this story before, but I had to tell it again–it’s one of my favorites.)
We had made reservations at a little Italian restaurant in Old Town, called Topo Gigio (which is delicious, by the way–the perfect “first Valentine’s Day” restaurant). Neal came over beforehand so we could take an Uber together to the restaurant.
He showed up with roses and a cute, thoughtful card. I took the flowers from him and we were talking in the hallway, me eventually making my way to the kitchen–mid conversation–to put the flowers in a vase.
I went to take the plastic off of them, and around the bottom of the stems was a gold J.Crew pave link bracelet. (If you remember how big these bracelets were four years ago, you’ll know what my reaction was like. I still love mine!)
I remember texting my mom in the uber being like, “MOM! You won’t believe what he did!!!”
He still does things like this all the time–how did I get so lucky?!
Anyway, if you’re like us and love to go all out for Valentine’s Day, this is one of the cutest ever dresses to wear! It’s so versatile, you’ll be wearing it long after Valentine’s Day. I typically gravitate toward dresses like this that can be worn for a variety of occasions–from more casual ones like dinner, to more formal events, like a wedding.
(Which, by the way, if you remember from yesterday’s post, I wore this dress to my friends’ wedding a couple of weeks back! It was black tie optional, and the midi length and the striking red made it a perfect “not too over the top” black tie option.)
BUT anywho, if you’re looking for more Valentine’s Day outfit ideas, here are some of my other favorites below!
