This past weekend, Neal and I ventured to Pilsen–an area so close to us, but we haven’t really taken advantage of! It’s an up and coming neighborhood just south of where we live, full of amazing shops, cool bars, and the BEST Mexican food in the city. (Seriously, what’s not to love?)
It was pretty freezing out (understatement), so I bundled up with my Vineyard Vines vest layered under my Barbour coat (Nordstrom has them back in stock, by the way!) I always forget how much I love vests until I pull them out of my closet. They’re really the best layering item, and they add so much extra warmth! (I also love this version, this version, this version and this version, if you’re in the mood for some vest hunting.)
It had been so nice and warm until the day I got home from Oregon (of course, funny how those things work, right?!) so I was glad I had my Sorel boots to easily trek through the snow and ice. This purse is also a lifesaver whenever we go out exploring. It doesn’t look like it holds that much stuff, but it actually perfectly fits my giant camera, as well as all my necessities. It’s like a Mary Poppins bag!
If you’re up for exploring Pilsen too, here are some of my favorite, can’t-miss spots!
First up, we hit Los Comales (the 18th Street location) for some amazing tacos. Neal and I both got steak tacos and they were some of the best I’ve had. Then we ventured down 18th street and popped into some great vintage stores: Pilsen Vintage, Knee Deep Vintage, and Comet Vintage. Neal scored this AMAZING vintage Burberry coat from the 70’s (seriously, so cool.) for only $90 at Knee Deep. Then, I found the cutest feminine pink dress at Comet, which is hands-down the most well-organized, cleanest, most pristine vintage store I’ve EVER been into (and I’ve been in a LOT!) I’m getting the dress altered to be a bit shorter, but you’ll probably be seeing it on the blog soon! (P.S. I never really talk about vintage here, would you like to hear more about it? I used to be a vintage rat, but I’ve gotten away from it over the past few years. I’d love to start acquiring more vintage pieces again!)
After that, we stopped into Lost Girls Vintage, and Modern Cooperative, which is an amazing combo clothing/furniture store with a ton of swoonworthy Mid Century finds. I wanted to buy one of everything!
Have you ever checked out Pilsen? If you’re not from Chicago, I hope you’ll put it on your list next time you visit!
