HAPPY MONDAY everybody!
We had the best weekend visiting our family friends up in Lake Geneva! Have you been? It’s so beautiful up there and it’s the perfect weekend getaway from Chicago (speaking of, if you’re looking to get out of the city, I did a whole roundup of Chicago weekend getaways in this post!)
I hope you enjoyed my Italy Packing List post that was published on Friday (thanks for being patient with me while I finished it!) I thought a great follow up to that post would be a recap of the outfits I wore in Italy according to my iPhone! In all honesty I feel like “real outfits” isn’t even the right term–I don’t shoot outfits that aren’t “real outfits” ? but, you know, I feel like it’s always more reassuring to see outfits captured “in the wild” ?
Here are 17 outfits that I wore on our Italy trip, snapped courtesy of Neal, with my iPhone ?
Snapped at O’Hare before our flight! Old striped tee, Yoga Pants, Allbirds, Lo & Sons Catalina Deluxe Tote, Delsey Suitcase (See above note!)
Our first stop in Florence was showing Neal my old apartment! 14 Via Dante Alighieri! Wearing my Everlane Box Cut tee (comes in tons of colors!), Abercrombie Jean Shorts (this was the only time I wore my jean shorts if we’re being honest) Old sandals
Our first night in Florence, enjoying a bottle of prosecco on the rooftop of our hotel–The Glance–would highly recommend staying there! Wearing the same Everlane tee but changed into my white Everlane denim skirt and salvaged my hair with a scarf (mine is vintage, but similar here!) for dinner at Il Gato e la Volpe (one of my old study abroad haunts–its so great. Ask for Fatjon!)
Posing in front of the Duomo before a day of exploring the city. Wearing my Everlane t-shirt dress, Straw boater hat, Madewell backpack, Jack Purcell sneakers
Heading out to dinner at Za Za, one of my favorite restaurants in Florence! You must get the truffle pasta! Wearing my favorite striped Linen Midi Dress, old Kendra Scott Earrings
My first taste of Antico Noe in TEN YEARS! The best sandwich shop in Florence (we went twice!) You must get the #4! Wearing Everlane Japanese Go-Weave Camisole, white Everlane denim skirt, similar scarf
Admiring the sunset at Piazza Michelangelo! Wearing Everlane Japanese Go-Weave Camisole, white Everlane denim skirt, Madewell backpack, similar scarf, old sandals
Heading out to explore in Florence. Wearing this midi dress AGAIN with my Jack Purcell sneakers
On the way out to dinner in Florence–wearing my ASOS striped mini dress, Steven Greece Slide Sandals, Madewell backpack
Wine tasting in San Gimignano wearing my Everlane wrap dress, Scarf from the Florence leather markets, similar scarf here.
We took a cooking class with Nonna Ciana in Tuscany and it was one of our favorite parts of the trip! Here I’m wearing (yet again) my Everlane t-shirt dress and Steven Greece Slide Sandals
Sunset in the Tuscan vineyards at Borgo San Felice, wearing my Everlane Cotton Midi Dress (TTS but now sold out in navy, but available in stripes!) Steven Greece Slide Sandals
AHH take me back to the gorgeous pool at Borgo San Felice in Tuscany! Here I’m wearing my Abercrombie black bikini, Everlane shirt dress, similar straw hat, and of course (although not pictured) the Steven Greece Slide Sandals.
Wore this WAYF dress to Capri (sold out) but very similar Reformation dress here, and Steven Greece Slide Sandals
On the water Taxi to Amalfi and then Ravello (see my guide on the Amalfi Coast here!)–Wore my linen polka dot mini (sold out, but Reformation carries a TON of cute versions that are similar in cut!) I also love this one that is gingham and ties in the back as well as this little retro striped one! This green linen mini is perfect as well. All look so cute with sandals OR sneakers! Madewell backpack.
In Pompeii (this was thought to be the first “fast casual” pizza oven ever created! So cool right!?) Madewell shorts, similar linen shirt, similar hat, Madewell backpack, Jack Purcell sneakers
In Rome on our favorite tour ever–Eating Italy’s “Taste of Testaccio” tour–eating Suppli (Roman deep fried risotto balls, similar to Arancini!) wearing Madewell shorts, Everlane Air Camisole, Allbirds, Madewell backpack
Loving all these outfits!! Those madewell pull on shorts and the Everlane cami will probably be the first two things I buy 🙂
You look beautiful! We just got back from Italy too, including Florence and Tuscany. Isn’t the Florence Duomo just stunning? I couldn’t believe how beautiful it is in real life, and the work that must have gone into it. Truly breathtaking.

Hi! Where did you get your sunglasses??
Ummm.. I have NEVER posted a rude comment online before and I really hope that you take this as advice and not rude (I try to stay positive and I did LOVE your article about a messy girl becoming clean but same issues with both things… ) you, my friend NEED to STEP OUT OF THE MOLD!!! oh my goodness!!! You went to Italy and you could wear ANYTHING BOLD, STATEMENT MAKING, exciting (like a trip to Italy-fashion capitol of the world) -and you wore the most BORING clothing I have ever seen!!! (Seriously—/striped T and shorts or pants like every day!!!) and accessories-the MOST medium size hoop earrings ever-) also, you have a great body-you could wear awesome clothes and stick out but you represent Americans as “typical Americans” as for your cleaning stuff, you claim to be “messy” becuz you leave your glass of water on the nightstand?!?!? The advice was good until I read your examples-your examples 100% made you EXACTLY like the clean people that you claimed to not be which is probaly why your friends don’t believe you!! I know that people say to “be yourself” and maybe you are in your fashion but you look like every single other person at a college trying to fit in. There are colors, accessories, prints, styles of clothing, USE AT LEAST ONE OF THEM BEFORE POSTING 17 PICS!!! Even the cute maxi you somehow made boring..: but go for that, add some bold accessories and it will HELP YOU GREATLY WITH YOUR COMMISSIOs-some BIG SUNGLASSES, a chunky necklace or bracelet-make it pop and u will make moRE MONEY also-again you have some good stuff -the looks, the advice, nice blog format, but ALSO use some color there!!!
^^This comment is so rude! I can’t believe the things people will say on the internet. Jess, I’ve been referring to this post over and over again ahead of my own trip to Italy in a few weeks. I’m so appreciative of all your content here and on Instagram and I think you have wonderful, classic style. Here’s to women lifting each other up instead of tearing each other down. Xoxoxo
I think she looked really cute and I was relieved to see someone wear cute things I would wear. We are Americans, don’t hide it be an American. Do you think when Italians come to America they worry about wearing what we wear?! Stop being rude and be nice woman!!
I agree! And to be honest, I’m Italian and these outfits don’t scream “American” nor “tourist” to me, they just seem comfy and practical while still looking cute and polished!
Hi is this really the Catalina delux tote in the first photo? Not the Catalina deluxe (slightly larger than the tote)? I want to but it but want the same size you have- looks perfect! Thanks!
i was just wondering, were you worried to use the madewell backpack? in case someone tidied you take something? many sites say to use a crossbody but i think using a backpack would be easier? thx 🙂
